국문 초록

본 연구는 피카소의 작품 ‘게르니카’를 중심으로 이제까지 다루어진 피카소의 작품해석에 있어 양식중심의 미술사적 해석의 한계를 넘어 보다 동시대적 시각을 지닌 예술의 방향에서 해석해보고 그 의미를 찾는데 그 목적이 있다. 이와 같은 맥락에서 ‘게르니카’의 해석에서 막연히 반전이슈만을 부각하는 미술사적 해석에서 벗어나 보다 미래지향적 평화의 꿈을 제시하는 피카소의 동시대적 의식을 주목하여 추상적 표현과 상징 속에서 해석의 실마리를 발견해보고자 한다. 피카소가 입체주의 사조를 개척함으로써 위대한 20세기 현대미술가라는 타이틀을 갖게 되었다기보다 당대를 바르게 보고 비판과 비전을 제시하고 있다는 점을 짚어보고자 하였다. 따라서 작품의 주제적인 면과 형식적인 면을 분석한 ‘게르니카’ 해석을 통해 ‘동시대성’과 ‘인간존엄성’이라는 메시지를 읽어냄으로써 미래로 향하는 동시대 예술가로서 피카소의 의식과 시선을 확인해보고자 하였다. 결과적으로 ‘게르니카’를 통해 본 피카소의 예술세계는 단순히 피카소의 표현양식의 의미를 넘어선 예술에 있어 사회적 역할과 의미, 시대의식을 담아내고 있음을 보여주고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to interpret the Picasso’s works focusing on the ‘Guernica’ to the trend of contemporary art which contains the view point for the contemporary society rather than only a specific art style of modern art. In that context it is considered to find Picasso’s profound concept of contemporary society which represents the dream for the future-facing vision and peace contrary to the interpret of only anti-war intention vaguely regarding to the ‘Guernica’ which is well known as master piece for the anti-war. And it is verified the reason why Picasso’s reputation nowaday is coming from his vision and critical with artistic view point for the contemporary society rather than only pioneering to the Cubism style. Through this study, I finally, expect to deliver Picasso’s concept and view point as a contemporary artist who stands to the future in terms of discovering the massage that are the key words both of ‘contemporary consciousness’ through the interpret ‘Guernica’ to the subject and the formal matters of the work. Therefore, It tried to verify Picasso’s art world by means of analyzing to the ‘Guernica’ which contains to the meaning and role for the contemporary society in his art beyond its artistic style.
