낙서화 감상활동을 통한 시각적 문해력 신장 방안

국문 초록

낙서화는 낙서가 가진 유희적이고 치유적 특성과 더불어 개방적인 장소에 사회 또는 자신의 정체성에 대한 생각을 시각적 기호를 통해 함축적으로 표현하여 관객과 소통하고자 하는 특성을 가지고 있다. 본 연구는 낙서화 감상을 통한 시각적 문해력을 신장시키는 방안을 모색하기 위해, 서울 ○○초등학교의 6학년 B 학급 28명(남자 13명, 여자 15명)을 대상으로 실행 연구를 진행하였다. 낙서화 감상수업을 통해 신장시키고자 하는 시각적 문해력은 시각문화가 확장되는 현대에서 미술 교육이 목표로 하는 주요 학습역량으로 이미지를 해석하고 판단하는 이해 능력과 이미지를 활용 및 적용하여 시각물을 창작하는 표현 능력이 합쳐진 시각적 소통 능력이다. 감상 수업을 위해 주요 낙서화가의 표현적, 기호적, 내용적 특징과 각 작가의 작품의 특징을 근거하여 작가별로 적합한 감상 관점을 제시하였다. 또한 시각적 문해력의 구성 요소를 추출하여, 이를 결과 분석의 기준으로 삼아 유의미한 결과를 도출하였다. 본 연구 결과 학습자의 시각적 인지, 비판적 읽기, 시각적 표현 역량과 더불어 시각적 문해력과 관련한 경향성과 태도에서의 긍정적인 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 낙서화 감상활동이 시각적 문해력 신장에 유의미한 영향을 끼치는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Graffiti Art have the fun and healing qualities of graffiti, as well as the ability to communicate with the audience by implicitly expressing ideas about society or one s identity in an open place through visual symbols. In order to improve visual literacy through graffiti art appreciation, this study was conducted on 28 sixth-grade B classes (13 males and 15 females) at ○○ Elementary School in Seoul. The visual literacy that is intended to be enhanced through graffiti appreciation classes is the visual communication ability combined with the understanding ability to interpret and judge images as major learning competencies targeted by art education in the modern age, where visual culture is expanded, and the ability to use and apply images to create visual objects. For the appreciation class, the expressive, symbolic, and content characteristics of the major graffiti artists and the characteristics of each artist’s works were given a suitable appreciation perspective by each artist. The components of visual literacy were also extracted and significant results were derived using them as the basis for the analysis of results. This study identified positive changes in the tendency and attitude associated with visual literacy, as well as the learner s visual perception, critical reading, and visual presentation capabilities. This shows that graffiti painting appreciation activities have a significant effect on the enhancement of visual literacy.
