국문 초록

그 동안 도덕교육 분야에서 탐색된 다양한 도덕교육이론들은 각각 그 나름으로 도덕교육이론의 깊이와 넓이를 예시해 왔다. 소크라테스 이래로, 그리고 주희와 왕양명에 의해 더욱 분명한 형태로 표명된 지행합일론은 그 전형적 사례에 해당한다. 그들의 지행합일론은 이른바 ‘지행의 괴리’로 불리는 삶의 현상에 대한 한 가지 설명을 제공하고 있다. 그들의 설명에서 우리가 알 수 있는 것은, ‘지행의 괴리’ 현상은 아는 것을 실천하지 않는 의지력의 결핍에서 비롯된 것이 아니라, 지식을 배워 존재의 도덕을 형성하는 일에 불가피하게 수반되는 교육의 근본 제약에 해당한다는 점이다. 이 점에서 지행합일론은 올바른 삶의 의미와 그 실현 방안을 밝히는 도덕교육이론의 근본문제요 또 교육이론의 근본문제에 해당한다고 말할 수 있다. 향후 도덕교육이론의 과제는 지행합일론으로 예시되는 도덕교육의 그 근본 문제를 더욱 분명히 밝히는 데에 있으며, 최근 교육학에서 논의되고 있는 ‘초실천’이라는 담론 형식은 그 방향을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

Diverse theories which have been presented in the field of moral education contribute to deepening and widening the theory of moral education respectively. The doctrines of unity of knowledge and action suggested by Socrates, Chu Hsi, and Wang Yang-Ming are the best possible examples of the theory of moral education. Each doctrine provides a valid explanation of what is called the ‘separation of knowledge and action’. According to each doctrine, the gap between knowledge and action is not due to the weakness of will power which puts knowledge into practice. Rather, it is based on, or derived from the fundamental fallibilities of education in developing the morality of being through learning the school subjects. In this sense, the doctrine of the unity of knowledge and action exemplifies the fundamental problems both of educational theory and of moral educational theory, which are aimed at explicating the significance and realization of the standard of life. From now on, what should be pursued in moral educational theory is to explain explicitly the fundamental problems of moral education exemplified by the doctrine of the unity of knowledge and action. ‘Metapraxis , the form of discourse which has recently been introduced in the field of education, could be accepted as the best viable guide to the task of making explicit the fundamental problems of moral education.
