하나님은 과연 이성적 존재인가?

국문 초록

본 논문의 주제는 ‘인간은 어떻게 사고하는가?’ 하는 문제를 ‘하나의 경험’에 비추어 검토하는 것이다. 서양전통철학에 의하면 그리고 대부분의 사람들이 믿는 바에 의하면 사람들은 흔히 인간을 이성적 존재로 규정해왔다. 인간을 이성적 존재로 규정하게 된 데에는 상당한 정도 하나님은 순수이성의 존재이며, 로고스 즉 이성에 의해 우주를 창조하였다는 사실에 기반을 두고 있다. 본 논문은 널리 인정되고 있는 이러한 사실을 재검토하는 것이다. 여기서 사용한 방법은 세상을 창조하는 하나님의 경험을 ‘하나의 경험’과 질성적 사고의 개념에 비추어 분석함으로써,‘하나의 경험’에서 작용하는 사고양태들을 확인하고 사고양태들의 작용방법을 밝히는 것이다. 본 연구의 주장은 크게 세 가지로 요약된다. 첫째 인간은 질성적 사고와 이성적 사고를 동시에 하는 존재이다. 둘째 하나의 경험에는 심미적 사고양태, 종교적 사고양태, 이론적 사고양태가 통합적으로 작용한다. 셋째 이론적 사고는 질성적 사고에 의존한다. 결론적으로 인간은 이성적으로 사고하는 존재라기보다는 심미적 사고양태와 종교적 사고양태의 기초 위에 이론적 사고를 하는 존재이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to inquire into how man thinks on the basis of Deweyean conception of qualitative thought, an experience and aesthetic mode of thought, and religious mode of thought. It is widely and historically accepted that man is a rational being and thinks in a rational way. The main purpose is to explore an alternative to this idea concerning the nature of human thinking. The notion of man as rational being is originated from and justified ultimately by the Bible s description of God s creation of the Universe. The strategy of this research is to scrutinize analytically and logically the Bible story of the creation with respect to the reconstructed idea of an experience, in order to secure the eventual legitimacy. The main propositions are summarized as:1. Man thinks in an integrated manner of both qualitative and rational thinking. 2. Qualitative thought is logically and practically followed by rational thought. Rational thought is dependent upon qualitative thought; the former can be activated and ceased on the command of the latter. 3. Three modes of thought―aesthetic, religious and theoretical mode―are working together and integratedly in the practical process of an experience . In conclusion, man thinks in an integrated way of aesthetic, religious and theoretical mode of thinking. Thus, man can be properly defined as qualitative rational being, rather than as rational being.
