영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to develop the skill learning program which is based on the pencil sharpening skill with a knife and to investigate the effects of the program on the tool handling ability of the elementary school students. The subject of this study was chosen among two classes of 4th grade students in an elementary school in Inchon, which was separated between an experimental group of 36 students and a control group of 36 students. The pencil sharpening skill program was applied to the experimental group 30 times and statistic data were compared two ways(between the pre-tests and the post-tests and pre-tests of the 2 groups and post-tests of the 2 groups). The methods of analysing statistics were performed by t-test with the SPSSWIN program, also during the study the level of significance was set up to 5％ for testifying the hypothesis. The findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, there is significant difference in the post-test which shows that the average score of the experimental group(3.09) is higher than that of the control group(2.50)(t=3.44, p＞.01). Second, the study also reveals that there is statistically significant difference in tool handling ability in sharpening, cutting with knives and cutting with scissors between the pre-test and the post-test. As a result, the school have to offer more time in that the children will experience lots of tool handling activities such as making with hands and cutting with knives or scissors.
