블록을 활용한 과학 활동이 유아의 과학적 탐구능력과 문제해결력 향상에 미치는 효과

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 블록을 활용한 과학 활동이 유아의 과학적 탐구능력과 문제해결력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 있다. 연구대상은 N시에 소재하고 있는 유치원에 재원 중인 만 5세 유아 36명(실험집단 18명, 통제집단 18명)이었다. 실험집단 유아에게는 선행연구고찰 및 예비연구과정을 거쳐 연구자가 구안한 블록을 활용한 과학 활동(경사로, 도로, 도미노, 탑)을 각 주제 당 3주씩 총 12주간 실시하였으며, 통제집단 유아에게는 누리과정 생활주제별 활동을 실시하였다. 사전, 사후에 실험집단과 통제집단에게 과학적 탐구능력과 문제해결력 검사를 실시한 결과, 블록을 활용한 과학 활동은 과학적 탐구능력 전체와 하위변인 중 예측하기, 관찰하기, 측정하기, 토의하기 하위요소에는 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문제해결력 전체와 하위변인인 문제에 대한 아이디어 제안 및 적용, 문제해결에 대한 결론짓기 하위요소에는 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 놀이자료로서의 블록이 유아의 과학적 탐구를 위한 중요한 자료로 활용될 수 있으며, 과학교육의 교수․학습 방법으로 다양한 블록 활용방안이 효과적일 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand how a scientific activity with blocks play affects the science process skill and the problem-solving abilities of young children. The subjects of this study were 36 5-year-old children in two public kindergartens located in N province (experimental group:18; children of control group:18). The experimental group was engaged in 4 block play activities(slope roads, roads, dominoes, ad towers), lasting 3 weeks for each block play activity resulting in a total of 12 weeks, devised by the researcher based on prior research studies and preliminary research. On the other hand, the control group experienced theme-based activities in the Nuri curriculum. The experimental group and control group were tested on pre and post ‘Science Process Skill Test’ and ‘Scientific Problem Solving Ability Test’, and the results of the tests can be summarized as follows. First, scientific activities using blocks had a positive effect on science process skills, and subvariants such as prediction skill, observation skill, measuring skill and discussion skill. Second, the activities had a positive effect on problem solving ability, and subvariants such as suggesting and applying ideas to problems and reaching conclusion for problem solving. These results suggest that blocks as play materials can be used as important data for understanding science process of young children and various activities using blocks can be effectively used as teaching and learning methods for science education of young children.
