블로흐 철학과 유대주의

국문 초록

인류의 역사는 때로는 종교의 이름으로 때로는 경제의 이름으로 질료를 비하하거나 도구화하기도 했다. 그리고 인간의 폭력과 야만도 이와 함께 해왔다. 그 대표적인 경우가 바로 유대주의와 반유대주의라는 굴레 속에 작동해온 ‘지배-차별-배제’라는 구조였다. 유대인으로서 철학하기를 수행해온 블로흐는 누구보다 이 문제에 천착했다. 그는 질료에 폭력을 행사해온 제도 종교와 자본의 부조리를 분석하고, 나아가 이를 극복하기 위해 아리스토텔레스의 질료 개념과 마르크스의 실천 개념을 새롭게 재구성하여 희망의 철학을 제시한다. 아울러 그는 이를 통해 ‘질료의 역동성’을 충분히 살리지 못한 칸트의 비판철학과 헤겔의 변증법철학의 한계도 넘어서고자 한다. 그는 이 역동성에 기초하여 추상적 보편성 추구가 낳은 폭력을 극복할 수 있는 길, 이른바 ‘구체적 초월’을 모색한다. 그의 이러한 철학적 정신이 그의 희망의 철학, 즉 ‘아직-아님’의 철학에 잘 응축되어 있다. 그의 철학은 과거적 완결성이나 미래적 완결성으로 과정 속에 살아가는 질료적 개체들의 삶을 억압·차별·배제하는 잘못된 유토피아를 극복하려고 한다. 분명 그의 이런 철학은 종교와 자본이 결합하여 부당하게 지배해온 전체주의를 극복하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다. 그렇지만 그의 전투적 낙관주의에 깔려 있는 관점, 즉 질료에 대한 긍정적 관점이나 이에 기초한 그의 저항 정치에는 논란의 여지가 남아 있다. 사실 그의 철학을 제대로 평가하기 위해서는 이 부분에 대한 좀 더 심화된 논의가 요구된다. 그러나 이 글은 블로흐 철학과 유대교의 관계를 분석하는 데 일차적 목적을 두고 있어, 또한 지면의 한계로 인해, 이에 대해서는 다음 기회에 다루고자 한다.

영문 초록

The history of mankind has degraded or instrumentalized matter sometimes in the name of religion and sometimes in the name of economy. And human violence and barbarism have been with it. The representative case was the structure of dominance – discrimination - exclusion that has been operating in the bonds of Judaism and anti-Semitism. Ernst Bloch, who has carried out his philosophy as a Jew, was more committed to this issue than anyone else. He thoroughly digs into the absurdities of institutional religion and capital that have caused violence to the matter, and proposes a philosophy of hope by reconstructing Aristotle s concept of material and Marx s practice to overcome these problems. In addition, he intends to overcome the limitations of Kant s critical philosophy and Hegel s dialectical philosophy, which have not fully exploited the dynamism of material. Based on this dynamic of material, he seeks the so-called concrete transcendence(konkretes Überschreiten) that can overcome the violence resulting from the pursuit of abstract universality. Through this transcendence, he tries to overcome the abstract transcendence that has been practiced in the name of religion or capital, and at the same time, overcomes the violence brought about by it. His philosophical spirit is condensed in his philosophy of hope, the philosophy of not yet(Noch-Nicht) . His philosophy of not-yet(Noch-Nicht) contains a strong will to overcome the wrong utopia that oppresses, discriminates and excludes the lives of the material entities living in the process with past or future perfection. Clearly, his philosophy could play an important role in overcoming totalitarianism, which has unfairly dominated through combination of religion and capital. However, there remains room for controversy over his militant optimism - a positive view of matter and his resistance politics based on it. In order to properly evaluate his philosophy, further discussion is needed. However, this article is primarily intended to analyze the relationship between Bloch’s philosophy and Judaism, and because of the limitations of the space, I will discuss this in the next opportunity.
