국문 초록

본 연구에서는 물질주의 가치관과 사회비교성향이 고등학생의 우울에 미치는 영향과 물질주의 가치관과 우울의 관계에서 사회비교성향의 조절효과가 유의한지를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기도 소재 일반계 고등학생 422명이 응답한 자기보고식 설문지 자료를 분석하였다. 설문자료 통계처리는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 물질주의 가치 추구와 사회비교성향, 우울의 전체 점수 및 측정변인들 간 상관분석을 실시하였고 사회비교성향의 조절효과를 확인하기 위하여 AMOS 21.0을 이용한 구조방정식 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 고등학생의 물질주의 가치관이 우울과 유의한 관련성이 있었고, 고등학생의 사회비교성향 또한 우울과 유의한 관련성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고등학생의 물질주의 가치관과 우울의 관계에서 사회비교성향의 조절효과가 유의하였다. 즉, 물질주의 가치관이 강한 고등학생들이 사회비교성향이 높은 경우 우울이 더 심해질 수 있음을 의미한다. 이러한 결과는 고등학생의 우울을 예방하기 위한 상담 또는 교육에서 물질주의 가치관과 사회비교성향을 낮추어주는 프로그램이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study evaluated how materialistic values and social comparison orientation affect depression in high school students, and whether social comparison orientation moderates the relationship between materialistic values and depression. Participants included 422 high school students from Gyeonggi-do, who completed a self-report survey including measures of materialistic values, social comparison orientation, and depression. A correlational analysis was performed, followed by structural equation modeling. The analyses indicated significant, positive relationships between materialistic values and depression, and between social comparison orientation and depression. There was also a significant moderating effect of social comparison orientation on the relationship between materialistic values and depression. As such, students high on materialistic values were more likely to be depressed if they were also high on social comparison orientation. We recommend the implementation of counseling or education programs to lower high school students’ materialistic values and social comparison orientation in order to reduce their risk for depression.
