단어 차원의 의미적‧형태적 투명성과 복합성

국문 초록

본고는 단어 차원에서 의미적 투명성, 의미적 복합성, 형태적 투명성, 형태적 복합성을 실제적으로 판정해 낼 수 있는 정의들을 도출해 내고자 하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 의미적 투명성은 단어 구성 요소의 의미가 형성된 단어의 의미에 그대로 승계되는 성질로서 투명/부분투명/불투명으로 나뉜다. 의미적 복합성은 어떤 한 단어가 내부적으로 형태 분석이 가능하고, 분석된 형태들이 각각 자체의 의미를 가지고 있는 성질로서 복합/단일로 나뉜다. 형태적 투명성은 단어 구성 요소의 형태가 형성된 단어에 그대로 반영되거나, 자동적인 음운론적 규칙에 의하여 변동된 채 반영되는 성질로서 투명/부분투명/불투명으로 나뉜다. 형태적 복합성은 한 단어가 공시적으로 명확하게 두 가지의 형태적 요소를 지니고 있는 성질로서 복합/단일로 나뉜다. 이러한 투명성과 복합성 판단은 언중의 공시적 언어 지식을 바탕으로 이루어진다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to define semantic transparency, semantic complexity, morphological transparency and morphological complexity within words. Semantic transparency is categorized into three groups of transparency, partial-transparency and opacity, depending on whether or not a word inherits the meanings of its components. Semantic complexity is divided into two categories of complexity and simplicity, depending on whether or not parts of a word can be analyzed into their own meanings. Morphological transparency is categorized into three groups of transparency, partial-transparency and opacity, depending on whether or not the parts constituting a word remain the same after word formation. In addition, automatic phonological rules are needed to explain morphological transparency. Morphological complexity is divided into two categories of complexity and simplicity, depending on whether or not a word has two or more synchronic parts. Judging the transparency and complexity of a word depends on the native speakers synchronic knowledge of the language. The above four concepts could become fundamental criteria in classifying words.
