초등영어 어휘 습득에서 수용적 연어학습과 생산적 연어학습의 효과 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등영어 어휘 습득에 있어 연어학습의 과제 유형이 학습자들의 장․단기적 어휘 습득에 미치는 영향을 알아보고 효과적인 연어 지도 방안을 제안하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 대전시 소재 D초등학교 6학년 3개 학급의 학습자들을 대상으로 실험연구를 하였으며, 영어 능력에 따른 차이 또한 살펴보기 위하여 학생들을 상위, 중위, 하위 수준별로 구분하였다. 12주에 걸쳐 총 30차시의 수업을 실시하였으며, 수업 시간 중 약 15~20분간 수용적 연어 위주 과제, 생산적 연어 위주 과제, 개별 낱말 위주의 과제를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사후 단기 평가 결과에서 생산적 연어 위주 학습은 연어 표현력 향상에 유의미하게 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지연 사후 평가에서 수용적 연어 위주 학습과 생산적 연어 위주 학습이 개별 낱말 학습과 비교하여 장기적인 연어 이해력과 연어 표현력 학습 효과 유지에 효과적인 것으로 나타났으며, 특히, 생산적 학습이 가장 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학습자 수준별로 분석해보면, 중위 수준에서는 생산적 연어 위주 학습이 장기적인 연어 이해력과 표현력에 유의미한 향상을 가져왔으며, 하위 수준에서는 수용적 연어 위주 학습이 장기적인 연어 이해력 향상에 효과적이었다. 이러한 연구 결과는 초등 영어 어휘지도에서 학습자들의 영어 수준과 연어 학습 목적에 알맞은 연어 과제와 활동 유형을 제시할 필요가 있다는 것을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of two different collocation learning task types (receptive vs. productive) on elementary school students‘ long and short-term English vocabulary acquisition. To this end, 71 students in 6th grade participated in the study during the course of their regular English lessons twice a week for twelve weeks. The students were divided into three groups according to their level of English proficiency: upper, middle and lower. A total of 30 classes were conducted over 12 weeks, each including approximately 15 to 20 minutes of receptive collocation tasks (Class 1), productive collocation tasks (Class 2), and individual word-based tasks (Class 3). The results of the study were as follows. First, the short-term collocation knowledge post-test showed that productive collocation learning tasks had positive effects on productive collocation knowledge. Second, in the delayed post-test, it was found that the results of receptive collocation and productive collocation learning tasks significantly differed from individual word learning tasks in maintaining long-term learning effects. Third, at the intermediate level, productive collocation learning tasks significantly affected the delayed learning effects of collocation comprehension and production. At the lower level, receptive collocation learning significantly affected the delayed learning effects of collocation comprehension. This results suggest that teaching English vocabulary using the lexical approach is an effective way to build long-term memory and it is necessary to present the types of collocation tasks and activities that are appropriate to learners level of English proficiency.
