연암 박지원의 화론에 관한 연구

국문 초록

연암(燕巖) 박지원(朴趾源; 1737 - 1 805) 은 조선 후기 저명한 문학가이자 실학파 학자로， 약관의 나이에 글 솜씨를 떨치며 문학계를 이끌어 나갈 인물로 촉망을 받았다. 하지만 딩시의 타락한 정치 현실과 사회 풍조를 혐오하여 과거 시험을 통한 출세는 포기하고 오직 글쓰기와 학문에만 몰두하였다. 그리고 일생 동안 지식인으로서의 자세와 역할에 대한 고민을 많이 하였다. 이러한 그의 집념과 고집으로 《연암집 》 과 같은 문집을 비롯하여 시와 산문，《열하일기》, 《과농소초》 등 훌륭한 저술을 남겼다. 이렇듯 박지원은 한국문학사를 최고의 경지로 끌어올리는 데 큰 기여를 하였다. 이런 훌륭한 업적을 남긴 박지원의 문학에 대한 담론과 문예사상을 이해하기 위해 많은 사람들의 연구가 있어 왔다 그러나 지금까지 그 의 미학 적 성찰로 이루어진 화 론 이 있음에도 불구하고 대체 로 부분적인 언급만 있었을 뿐 화론을 주제로 한 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구자가 박지원의 화론을 독자적인 화론 이라는 전제는 했으나 박지원의 화평이 나 평문이 전문적인 화가의 입장이 아닌 감상자의 관점에서 이루어졌기 때문에 동양 화론의 영향을 무시할 수는 없다는 한계점도 있다. 또 회화에 대한 평문들은 매우 상 징적이고 은유적인 어법으로 쓰여 져 화론에 대한 정당성에 대한 문제점도 있을 수 있다. 이런 한계 점을 감안하여 본 연구에서는 박지원이 1780년 (정조 4) 에 중국 여행을 다녀와서 쓴 《열하일기 》 에서 주로 그 내용을 살펴보기로 하겠다 열하일기 중 〈열 상화보(烈上畵普) ) 에 는 우리나라 문인화와 서양회화를 비교하여 서로 다른 특정을 파악한 내용이 있으며， 실학자로서 우리에게 더 잘 알려진 석학이지만 그럼에도 탁월한 식견을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Park, Ji-Won(Yeonam, 1737-1805), who was the representative of Bukhak school, has been evaluated to be a splendid writer. His sentence has the spirit of the scripture as well as various writing style of that day and it moved reader’s mind by rich metaphor. The studies on the writings of Park Ji-Won who played a great role in advancing the modernization of our country in the late of Chosun Dynasty are very meaningful to the literati or artists. What is more, the study on the theory of Korean traditional painting is estimated to be useful in learning how the methodology of art criticism of our ancestors was in understanding the art history and area of art criticism which has made a new appearance in 2011 Revised Curriculum, even though the term education is not used. In that sense, this study aimed to draw the characteristics of Park, Ji-Won s theory of painting by analyzing his activities in his own age and his argument or view of painting expressed in Yeolhailgi. Thus, this study divided Park, Ji- Wen’s theory of painting into three at large to draw the characteristics focusing on Yeonamjib and Yeolhailgi. The three characteristics can be summarized as theory of Xieyi Law, theory of truth expression as reviewing the old and learning the new, and theory of Xieyi Realism. Furthermore, Park, Ji-Won’s attitude to the rational faculty of the mind was ultimately applied to his aesthetic thought and theory of painting, covering reviewing the old and learning the new which advocates theory of Xieyi Law without bei.ng partial, the past and the present, form and content, the nobility and the commonalty, beauty and ugliness, and xingsi and xieyi, altogether.
