개인의 인구통계학적 변인과 심리적 변인이 상담 서비스 이용 여부에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 상담 서비스를 이용한 경험이 있는 집단과 없는 집단을 구분시키는 인구통계학적 변인과 심리적 변인들을 밝히고, 개인의 상담 서비스 이용 여부를 예언하는데 있어 각 변인들의 상대적인 영향력을 비교해 보고자 하였다. 온라인 설문 조사에 참여한 3,663명의 성인들 중 15.7%가 상담 서비스를 이용한 경험이 있다고 보고하였다. 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 인구통계학적인 변인들 중에서는 성별, 나이, 학력 등이, 심리적 변인들 중에서는 상담 효과에 대한 기대, 사회적 낙인, 상담에 대한 태도, 당면한 문제에 대해 상담을 받으려는 의지 등이 상담 서비스 이용 여부를 유의미하게 예언하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 변인들 중 학력이 가장 높은 예언력을 갖는 것으로 나타났는데, 학력이 높을수록 상담 서비스 이용 가능성이 높아지는 것으로 확인되었다.

영문 초록

This study examined the demographic and psychological variables that discriminated among those who have received professional counseling services and who haven't done so and further determined the relative importance of each variable in predicting the possibility of seeking help from counselors. Among 3,663 adults who participated in the online survey, 15.7% reported that they had previously used a counseling service. Logistic regression analyses revealed that gender, age, and education among demographic variables had a significant impact on the likelihood of an individual's counseling-seeking behavior. Likewise, expectation about counseling effectiveness, perceived public stigma, attitude toward counseling, and willingness to seek counseling among psychological variables explained a unique significant portion of the variance in counseling experience. Among all variables included in the model, level of education was the most predictive of whether or not to seek counseling. Specifically, results indicated that higher levels of education were associated with a stronger possibility of utilizing a counseling service for a given problem.
