백워드 디자인을 통해 본 미국 국가 수준 핵심음악기준의 내용 제시 방식의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 개정된 미국의 국가 수준 핵심음악기준의 교육내용 제시 방식을 Wiggins와 McTighe의 교육과정 개발 이론인 백워드 디자인의 관점에서 살펴보고 우리나라 국가 교육과정의 개발에 시사점을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 선행연구 고찰을 통해 교사의 수업을 지원하는 국가 교육과정의 역할과 이를 위한 교육내용 제시 방식의 유형, 교육과정상에서 교육내용과 관련된 백워드 디자인의 주요 아이디어를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 음악교과와 타 예술교과를 통합하여 교육내용을 제시하는 방식과 음악교과 별도의 교육내용을 제시하는 혼합 방식을 사용하였다. 또한 영속적 이해와 핵심질문을 교육과정의 교육내용으로써 함께 제시한 점이 과거와 달라진 주요 변화이며, 내용기준으로서 영속적 이해의 제공은 수행기준만 제시되었을 때보다 교육내용을 명료하게 하고 있었다. 따라서 교육내용을 보다 명료하게 위계적으로 제시하고, 포괄적으로 제시된 교육내용을 교실 수준으로 적절히 해석·적용할 수 있도록 함으로써, 그리고 교과 통합적 측면을 보여줌으로써 교사를 지원하는 국가 교육과정으로서의 역할을 충실히 해내야 할 것이다. 한편 국가 수준에서 제시하는 교육내용 자체의 질적 수준 담보는 물론 교과용 도서 개발 시 단원 수준에 적절한 교육내용으로 연결될 수 있도록 하는 지원·평가체제에 대한 후속연구, 교육과정상의 평가가 교육내용과 일관성을 갖고 수업활동에서 구체화될 수 있도록 하는 후속연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the way to present contents of the National Core Music Standards in the U.S. based on the backward design by Wiggins and McTighe, and to provide some suggestions for the national music curriculum in Korea. From the literature review, the role of curriculum to support teachers instruction, forms of presenting curriculum contents, and core ideas of the backward design were covered. The analysis result shows that the National Core Music Standards in the U.S. adopts the way of presenting both the integrated contents of arts curriculum and the music curriculum contents. Additionally it provides enduring understandings and essential questions as curriculum contents, which is quite distinctive compared to the previous national curriculum. This change enhances clarity of the curriculum compared to the presentational form providing performance standards alone. Thus the national music curriculum should play a role to support teachers and their instructions by both more clearly and hierarchically presenting curriculum contents and providing relationship with other subjects. As for the future study, the research about systems to support and evaluate the quality of the curriculum contents and the curricular coherence between the national level and the class level is needed. Also a study of the curriculum alignment between contents and assessment to promote enduring understanding in music is needed.
