장편영화 ‘숨바꼭질’에 나타나는 사운드의 기능에 대하여

국문 초록

장편영화 ‘숨바꼭질’은 개봉 당시 한국의 스릴러 영화중에서 역대 최고의 흥행 성적을 거둔 영화로서, 영화 사운드의 여러 기능 중에서 주로 유도, 연결, 대조적 기능이 두드러지게 나타났다. 사운드의 유도적 기능은 능동적인 화면 밖의 소리 기능에 바탕을 두고 있고, 사운드의 연결적 기능은 영화음악의 연속성이라는 원리에 바탕을 두고 있으며, 사운드의 대조적 기능은 음향효과의 대조에 의한 표현과 관계가 있다. 본 논문은 장편영화 ‘숨바꼭질’에 작용하는 사운드의 운용에 대해 유도, 연결, 대조적 기능을 중심으로 분석하였다. 첫 번째로 사운드의 유도적 기능에 대하여 극중 주인공의 동선 또는 시선을 유도하는 사운드는 주로 물과 관련된 소리였으며, 극중에서 얼굴이 가려진 인물의 행동에 의한 사운드가 다른 인물의 동선 또는 시선을 유도하는 장면이 나타났다. 두 번째로 사운드의 연결적 기능으로서 극중 영화의 중요한 장소인 최신식 아파트와 허름한 아파트를 연결하고, 인물들의 현재와 과거, 다시 현재로 돌아오는 시제의 변화를 인과적으로 연결하는 주제음악과 대사의 기능이 나타났다. 세 번째로 사운드의 대조적 기능이 나타나는 장면을 보면 건조한 느낌의 사운드와 축축한 느낌의 사운드의 대조를 통하여 극중 주인공의 성격과 상황을 상징하고, 서로 극단적인 감정 성격을 들려주는 사운드를 동시에 배치함에 따른 사운드의 이중적인 표현이 나타났다. 장편영화 ‘숨바꼭질’에 쓰인 여러 가지 사운드의 기능은 영화의 인물, 장소, 움직임, 시제의 변화 등과 밀접하게 연관되었으며, 결국 영화가 스토리, 공간, 시간을 유기적으로 구성하는데 많은 역할을 하였다.

영문 초록

The feature film “Hide and Seek” topped the box office among Korean thriller films on the film s opening time. The roles of inductive, connective, contrasting management of sound effective were significantly in this film. The inductive function of sound is based on the function of active off-screen sound, the connective function of sound is based on the principle of continuity of film music, and the contrasting function of sound is related on the contrast between sound effects. This paper is an analysis of the roles of inductive, connective, contrasting management of sound effective in the feature film Hide and Seek . First, on the inductive function of sound, sound used to induce the actions or attention of the protagonist in the film was relative to water and sound made by the unknown character would often bring about curiosity or an action of another character. Second, the connective function of sound was used to interconnect significance of the location of the old apartment with the contemporary building, in addition functioned to bring the characters back and forth through present, past and in the end back to present through the main theme and use of dialogue. Third, sound as a means to show distinction was used in the scenes where the dryness and sagginess of sound would picture a contrast so as to portray the personality and situation the protagonist was in, by using ambivalent sounds that would be a simultaneous description of emotional qualities of two extremes. Thus, the role of sound in the feature film “Hide and Seek” was an intimate relation of the character, location, movement, change of tense, which played a significant role in composing the story, space and time as a whole.
