영문 초록

The authors studied the relation between the amount of stress experienced during the past year and the onset of leukemia along with the personal history of the past experience of loss. Over a two-year period 35 leukemic patients and a age and sex matched normal control group were studied with Life Event Scale by Pyung-Sook Lee. Results were as follows * 1) The total life change unit of leukemic patients (1412.20) were significantly higher compared to that of the normal control(759.61)(P<〔0.03, Student’s t-test). 2) The negative life change unit of the leukemic patients (932.24) were significantly higher than that of the control group (448.03) (P<0.04, Student’s t-test) but there were no difference in the positive life change unit between the two groups. 3) The comparison of life change between leukemic patients and normal control or control group by 17 factors of life change events showed significant difference in the leukemic patients in those factors of marital life, death and health problems. 4) There were more past experience of loss observed in leukemic patients than in the normal control (P<0.05). From the results obtained, it seems likely that the onset of leukemia is precipitated by streessful life events during the previous year, but since the etiology of the illness is complementary, it cannot be interpreted as having a linear relationship
