국문 초록

목록서(目錄書) 연구는 오랫동안 학문적 연구의 기초 요소로서 ‘변장학술(辨章學術),고경원류(考鏡源流)’를 할 수 있다고 인정받아 왔다. 조선 시대 목록에 대한 학문은 깊은 역사적 뿌리를 가지고 있다. 여러 학자들의 저술 기록은 유사점과 차이점을 모두 보여주며, 오늘날 그 요점을 살펴보면 120여 방법이 있다. 조선 시대 여러 목록서를 살펴보면, 그 저술 방법은 일반적으로 원문을 분류하는 것이 아니라, 직접적으로 목록을 나타낸다. 비록 간혹 사분법[四分法, 經·史·子·集]이나 기타 방법론에 따라 원문을 분류하는 경우는 몇 가지 있지만, 이러한 경우는 매우 드물어, 이것이 조선 시대 목록의 중요한 특징이기도 하다. 본 논문은 규장각에 소장된 100여 종류 목록서를 중심으로 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 조선 시대 목록서 편찬 형식은 다음 일곱 가지 필수 유형으로 분류한다. 첫째, 승구제(承舊制)로, 사분법에 따라 원문을 분류하여 전통적인 방법을 고수한다. 둘째, 창신법(創新法)으로, 기호와 번호를 활용하여 쉽게 검색할 수 있도록 혁신적인 방법을 채택한다. 셋째, 도서 목록과 장서 조사는 기록 날짜, 장서 위치, 권수 등 세부 사항을 포함한다. 넷째, 출판과 판각하는 곳은 판본의 종류에 따라 작품을 분류한다. 다섯째, 장서의 문체는 부분별로 분석 정리한다. 여섯째, 장서 위치를 중심으로 사분법의 예를 채택한다. 일곱째, 한글 자모 순에 따라 제목을 나열한다. 그중 장서 조사 목적은 특히 상세하고 주도면밀한 것이 특징이다. 그러나 저술 목록에 관해서는 학술 저작물에 대한 분별력이 부족하고, 형식에서 서문과 비평이 거의 드물며, 판본, 교정, 유래에 대한 논의가 제한적이어서 추가 탐구의 여지가 있다. 결론적으로, 조선 시대에는 기록된 저작물이 풍부하고 원문 기록이 풍부하지만, 그와 함께 소실된 것도 많아서, 아직 후대에 추가 발굴과 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

The study of bibliographic catalogues has long been recognized for its ability to “distinguish scholarly works and trace their sources,” serving as a fundamental basis for academic research. The scholarship on catalogues from the Joseon period has deep historical roots, with various scholars demonstrating both similarities and differences in their recording methods. Upon examining over one hundred and twenty catalogues, it is evident that the cataloguing practices of the Joseon era generally do not categorize texts but instead provide direct listings. Although there are a few instances where texts are grouped according to the Four Divisions or other methodologies, these occurrences are quite rare, representing a significant characteristic of Joseon-era catalogues. This paper focuses on more than a hundred catalogues held in the Kyujanggak, categorizing them into seven essential types of compilation formats from the Joseon period: first, adhering to traditional methods by categorizing texts according to the Four Divisions; second, employing innovative methods utilizing symbols and numbering for easier retrieval; third, conducting bibliographic surveys that include details such as recording dates, shelf locations, and volumes; fourth, classifying works based on the place of publication and edition; fifth, organizing texts by literary style; sixth, arranging by shelf location while also drawing from the Four Divisions; and seventh, listing titles in alphabetical order according to Hangul. The bibliographic survey aspect is notably detailed and serves as a hallmark feature. However, regarding recording, there is a lack of discernment in scholarly works; within the formats, prefaces and critiques are seldom found, and discussions on editions, textual collation, and source tracing are limited, indicating areas for further exploration. Overall, during the Goryeo and Joseon periods, there was an abundance of recorded works and a rich collection of texts, yet many remain obscured, necessitating further excavation and scholarly treatment by future generations.
