국문 초록

이 연구는 여성 이주에서 ‘스킬’의 개념을 재조명하는 데 초점을 맞춰 재일 한국 이주 여성의 직업 참여 양상을 조사하였다. 연구는 30명의 참가자와의 질적 인터뷰를 통해 이들이 어떻게 구조적 장벽에 대응하고, 노동 시장의 도전에 적응하며, 직업 경로를 재정의했는지에 대한 구체적인 사례를 확인하였다. 참가자들은 재교육, 언어 습득, 인종 네트워크 활용과 같은 전략을 통해 노동시장에서의 기회를 확대하였으며, 사전 교육 및 업무 경험과 같은 인적 자본이 그들의 경로에서 중요한 역할을 했음을 보여주었다. 외국인 근로자와 여성 근로자라는 ‘이중 불이익’에 직면했음에도 불구하고, 많은 참가자가 회복탄력성과 주체성을 발휘하여 제도적 차별을 극복하고 일본 사회에 통합하는 데 성공하였다. 이 연구는 이러한 참여 방식을 분석함으로써 '스킬'이 유동적이고 상황에 따라 달라질 수 있는 본질을 가진다는 점을 강조한다. 특히, 스킬은 단순히 고정된 능력이 아니라, 이주 여성들이 구조적 장벽과 직면하면서 끊임없이 적응하고 재정의하는 동적인 속성을 지닌다. 이와 더불어, 스킬은 개인의 주체성과 적응력을 형성하는 데 중요한 역할을 하며, 이주 과정에서 그들의 정체성과 노동 시장 통합에 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 본 연구는 이러한 분석을 바탕으로, 제도화된 이주, 스킬 이동성, 정체성과 노동의 상호작용에 대한 폭넓은 논의에 기여한다. 이 연구는 특히 이주 여성의 경험이 기존 이주 연구의 경계를 확장할 수 있음을 보여주며, 이를 통해 이주와 스킬의 상호작용에 대한 새로운 이해를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the modes of career engagement among Korean migrant women in Japan, focusing on revisiting the concept of “skill” in female migration. Drawing on qualitative interviews with 30 participants, it explores how these women confront structural barriers, adapt to labor market challenges, and redefine their professional paths. The research highlights the critical role of human capital, including prior education and work experience, alongside strategies such as reskilling, language acquisition, and leveraging ethnic networks. Despite facing “double disadvantages” as foreign and female workers, participants exhibit resilience and agency, demonstrating their ability to integrate into Japanese society while navigating systemic discrimination. By analyzing these modes of engagement, this study offers new insights into the fluid and context-dependent nature of “skill,” emphasizing its role in shaping migrant women’s agency and adaptability. Ultimately, this research contributes to broader discussions on gendered migration, skill mobility, and the interplay of identity and labor in globalized contexts, providing a nuanced understanding of migrant women’s experiences.
