국문 초록

이 글은 백석 시에 나타나는 ‘공간’에 대한 문제를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 잠재적 공간, 감응의 세계, 동시성의 공간이라는 세 개의 틀을 사용하여 기존 논의와의 차별성을 확보하고자 하였다. 근대적 구획에 따라 형상화된 공간의 경계는 잠재적 공간의 개념 아래 해체되며, 비총체적이고 단일하지 않은 무한한 공간이 새롭게 창조된다. 이 공간은 단순히 시적 화자가 기억을 떠올리는 방식에 머무르지 않고, 물질의 존재 양상에 따라 끊임없이 변형되고 창조됨으로써, 비가시적인 세계를 지금-여기의 세계로 즉각적으로 펼쳐놓는 방식으로 나타난다. 나아가 이 공간에서는 물질 간의 접속 과정에서 빚어지는 감응의 순간 개방되는 동시성의 공간도 확인된다. 이러한 공간들은 물질 간의 소통 방식에 따라 하나의 통합된 공간으로 순간적으로 구현된다. 요컨대 백석은 공간의 변화무쌍한 가능성을 광범위한 차원에서 탐구하며, 근대의 모순과 폭력을 극복하려는 의지를 드러내고 있다. 이러한 백석의 공간 의식은 그의 문학을 총체적으로 이해하는 데 중요한 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study explored the concept of space in Baek Seok's Poetry by employing three analytical frameworks: potential space, the world of resonance, and the space of simultaneity. This novel approach sets this study apart from previous studies. First, the study deconstructed the fixedness of space, shaped by modern compartmentalization, under the concept of potential space, giving rise to infinite, non-totalizing, and non-uniform spaces. These spaces are not merely recollected by the poetic speaker but are continually transformed and recreated according to material existence, thereby rendering the invisible world immediate and present in the here and now. Second, it identified the simultaneous spaces that emerge in the moments of resonance that are generated during interactions among material entities. In these instances, multiple spaces are instantly realized as a unified space through material communication. In summary, Baek Seok appears to have extensively contemplated the protean possibilities of space as a means for overcoming the contradictions and violence of modernity. This spatial awareness in Baek Seok's literature is important as it provides a comprehensive framework for understanding his literary opus.
