국문 초록

본 연구는 국내 대학원에 재학 중인 외국인 대학원생들이 논문 작성 과정에서 생성형 인공지능 도구인 ChatGPT와 어떻게 상호작용하는지를 탐구한다. 연구의 목적은 이들이 논문 작성의 각 단계에서 ChatGPT를 사용하는 방식을 분석하고, 이들이 직면하는 어려움을 규명하는 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 외국인 학생들이 ChatGPT를 보다 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 교육적 전략을 제안하고자 한다. 연구 대상은 2024년 1학기 동안 A대학 국어국문학과 석사과정에 재학 중인 외국인 대학원생 4명이다. 연구 방법론은 작성 과정의 각 단계에서 산출물과 ChatGPT와의 상호작용을 비교·분석하고, 이들의 경험과 인식을 파악하기 위해 두 차례의 인터뷰를 실시하는 방식으로 진행되었다. 연구 결과, 학생들은 주로 아이디어 생성, 내용 구성, 문법 및 어휘 교정 목적으로 ChatGPT를 활용하였으며, 학술적 글쓰기 코칭 도구로서의 유용성을 확인하였다. 그러나 연구 주제에 대한 명확한 이해가 부족한 경우 ChatGPT의 효과적인 활용에 어려움을 겪는 한계도 드러났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 외국인 대학원생들이 논문 작성 과정에서 생성형 인공지능을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 구체적인 전략을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigates how foreign graduate students interactwith ChatGPT, during the thesis writing process. The objective is to analyze howthese students utilize ChatGPT at various stages of academic paper writing andidentify the challenges they face. Based on these findings, the study proposeseducational strategies to help foreign students use ChatGPT more effectively. Fourforeign graduate students in A University were the subjects. The researchmethodology involved comparing and analyzing the outputs produced at differentstages of the writing process and the interactions with ChatGPT, supplemented byinterviews conducted two times to understand their experiences and perceptions. The results revealed that students primarily used ChatGPT for generating ideas,organizing content, and correcting grammar and vocabulary, confirming its utilityas a coaching tool for academic writing. However, limitations were noted whenstudents lacked a clear understanding of their research topics, hindering theeffective use of ChatGPT. Based on these results, specific strategies were proposedto enhance the utilization of generative AI in the academic paper writing processfor foreign graduate students.
