제주 신화 그림책 속에 묘사된 인물 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 제주도를 배경으로 하는 신화 그림책 속에 등장하는 인물에 대한 분석으 로, 오래 전부터 전승되어 온 신화 속 인물이 유아를 대상으로 하는 그림책에서 어떻게 묘사되는지 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해, 제주 신화 그림책 7권을 선정 하여 서사 속 인물들의 관계와 신비로운 능력을 분석하였다. 분석한 결과 첫째, 제주 신화 그림책 속에 등장하는 조부모는 태초부터 존재하였고, 인간들을 수호하는 신으로 표현되었으며, 둘째, 부부는 하늘로부터 맺어진 인연으로, 새로운 신을 탄생시키며 서사의 시작점이 되었다. 셋째, 신의 자녀는 특별한 능력을 갖추고 태어났으나, 평범한 인간은 힘이 세거나 부모에 대한 지극한 효심 때문에 신이 되었으며, 넷째, 형제와 자매는 함께 경쟁하는 가운데 성장하며, 지상을 지키는 신으로 영원히 남아있다. 유아들의 눈높이 맞게 변형된 제주 신화 그림책 속 인물들은 이야기 속에서 서로 연결되어 신들의 계보를 이어갔고, 과거에 다양한 가족의 형태가 존재했음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 제주어와 제주 지역이 묘사된 장소로 시작된 스토리는 유아들에게 지역에 대한 자부심과 정체성을 심어줄 수 있으므로 교육 현장에서 지역사회에 대한 지평을 넓히는 교육 매체로 활용될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study is an analysis of characters that appear in mythological picture books set in Jeju Island. The purpose is to examine how mythological characters that have been handed down for a long time are depicted in picture books aimed at children. For this purpose, seven Jeju mythology picture books were selected and the relationships and mystical abilities of the characters in the narrative were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, firstly, the grandparents who appear in Jeju mythology picture books have existed since the beginning and are expressed as gods who protect humans, and secondly, the couple is a bond made in heaven, giving birth to a new god and becoming the starting point of the narrative. Third, children of gods are born with special abilities, but ordinary humans become gods because of their strength or extreme filial piety toward their parents. Fourth, brothers and sisters grow up competing together and remain forever as gods protecting the earth. The characters in the Jeju mythology picture book, modified to fit the needs of children, were connected between stories and continued the genealogy of the gods, and it was revealed that various family forms existed in the past. And the story that begins with the Jeju language and the place where the Jeju region is described can instill pride and identity in the region in children, so it can be used as an educational medium to expand horizons about the local community in educational settings.
