국문 초록

2025년부터 시작될 머스크와 하팍로이드의 새로운 협력관계인 제미나이(Gemini Cooperation) 출범은 해운 얼라이언스 구도에 큰 변화를 예고하며, 이는 전 세계 주요 항만의 운영과 물동량에 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다. 내년 제미나이의 컨테이너 정기 서비스 변화는 항만의 물동량에 변화를 줄 것으로 전망되므로, 이를 분석하고 예측할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 해운 얼라이언스의 변화가 글로벌 항만, 특히 부산항에 미치는 영향을 패널분석을 통해 실증적으로 검토하였다. 2016년 3분기부터 2023년 3분기까지의 글로벌 상위 20위권 항만 데이터를 활용하여, 해운 얼라이언스의 재편이 컨테이너 물동량에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 경제 성장(GDP), 정기서비스 기항수, 선박 크기가 항만의 컨테이너 물동량에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 분석 결과는 제미나이의 서비스 구조 변화가 글로벌 항만 경쟁력에 미치는 영향을 이해하는 데 기여할 것이며, 항만 운영과 정책 대응을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to analyze the representative differences between the services implemented by the launch of the Gemini alliance and the existing alliance services. Additionally, it forecasts the impact of the Gemini launch on Busan Port and other top 20 global ports. Research design, data and methodology : An empirical analysis is conducted using data from the Gemini alliance and the top 20 global ports. Specifically, the analysis derives the impact on ports by utilizing the representative differences of the Gemini service, such as the size of the ships and the frequency of regular service calls, including GDP. Results : All three independent variables (ship size, frequency of regular service calls, and GDP) were found to have a significant impact on port throughput. In particular, the size of the ships and the frequency of regular service calls have a relatively greater impact compared to GDP. Conclusions : The frequency of regular service calls by Gemini at Busan Port is expected to decrease significantly, raising concerns about a potential reduction in Busan Port's throughput. However, considering the increase in the size of feeder ships and Gemini's market share of 20%, it is deemed unlikely that Busan Port's throughput will immediately decrease significantly due to the Gemini launch. Therefore, the success of the differentiated services promoted by Gemini is crucial.
