국문 초록

범죄는 피해자에게 회복하기 힘든 피해를 남길 뿐만 아니라 피해자가 아닌 다수의 사람들에게 범죄에 대한 두려움을 일으킨다. 이 연구는 범죄 두려움을 일으키는 요인 중 개인적 특성이나 물리적 환경 요인 외에 사회적 특성 요인이 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위해 지역사회의 사회적 특성 중 지역주민 간 사회통합이 주민의 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 독립변수인 지역주민 간 사회통합 요인이 종속변수인 범죄에 대한 두려움에 미치는 영향을 다중회귀 분석방법을 통해 검증하였다. 분석결과, 지역주민들이 인식하는 지역주민 간 사회통합의 정도는 주민들이 느끼는 범죄 두려움에 유의미한 영향을 나타냈다. 지역주민 간 사회통합의 정도가 클수록 주민이 가지는 범죄 두려움은 낮아졌다. 지역주민 간 사회통합이 범죄 두려움을 감소시키는 것이다. 통제변수인 인구사회학적 특성 중에는 성별이 유의미한 영향을 보였는데, 여성이 남성보다 범죄에 대한 두려움을 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 응답자가 자녀가 있는 경우 범죄 두려움이 감소하였고, 응답자 가구의 월평균 소득이 많을수록 범죄 두려움은 증가하였다. 이에 따라 주민의 범죄 두려움 감소를 위해 지역사회의 주민 간 사회통합을 강화할 필요가 있어 보인다. 사회적으로 해체되거나 주민 간의 유대나 결속력이 약한 지역에 대해 주민 간의 친화를 도모하고 교류를 확대하여 지역사회의 문제를 주민이 스스로 해결할 수 있는 능력을 갖추게 하여 주민 간의 믿음과 신뢰가 형성되도록 한다면 범죄 두려움은 자연스럽게 감소할 것이다.

영문 초록

Crime leaves critical damage to victims and evokes the fear of crime in others. The study analysed the effect of social integration among the locals on the fear of crime to identify if social factors affect the fear of crime except for individual and environmental factors as the cause of the fear of crime. The independent variable is the social integration among the locals and the dependent variable is the fear of crime that the locals have. It tested the correlation between the variables through Multiple Regression Analysis. According to the analysis, the level of social integration significantly contributes to predicting the locals’ fear of crime. The higher the social integration is, the less the fear of crime is. The social integration could reduce the fear of crime. As a demographic factor, the female has more fear of crime than male. The respondents with children have less fear of crime but those with high household income have more fear of crime. In conclusion, it needs to improve the social integration among the locals to reduce the fear of crime. The fear of crime will naturally decrease when the locals can solve community problems by themselves and faith and trust among the locals should be formed through building friendships and increasing contact with neighbours in areas that have weak ties and solidarity among the locals.
