국문 초록

본 연구는 전쟁기 및 1950년대 전반기 문학을 재조명하며, 1953년부터 1954년까지 발간된 잡지 『문화세계』를 중심으로 문화 담론과 세계성 논의를 고찰하였다. 『문화세계』는 문학, 영화, 미술 등 다양한 문화 분야를 다루며, 전쟁기의 문화적 요구와 현대적 감각을 반영하고자 했다. 전쟁기는 해방 이후에 제기된 세계성과 현대성 논의를 중심으로 1950년대 문학 담론을 준비하고 생산하는 데 중요한 역할을 했으며, 모더니티에 대한 열망과 불안을 드러내는 중요한 시기였다. 『문화세계』는 문화 담론을 수립하고 해외 문화의 실제를 전달하며, 전후 국가 재건을 위한 현대성의 저장소 역할을 담당했다. 이 잡지가 의도하는 ‘문화에 기여’의 의미는 당대 주류를 이루었던 아메리카니즘이나 반공이데올로기에 입각한 문화의 정치적 참여가 아니었다. 그들이 지향한 ‘문화’는 문인과 언론인을 주축으로 한 소위 ‘문화인’들을 주체로 삼아, 우리 문화의 미래를 상상하고 실현하는 것이었다. 『문화세계』가 문학 위주의 타(他)잡지와는 달리, 영화, 연극, 철학, 문학, 미술, 음악 등 새로운 국가 재건을 위해 필요한 ‘현대 세계 문화’의 저장소 역할을 하게 된 이유 중 하나는 필진-이른바 ‘문화인’-들이 문화주의적 경향과 세계주의자로서의 정체성을 지닌 것에 있다. 이 연구는 1950년대 문학사의 연속성을 확보하고, 전후 대표 담론인 세계주의의 기원을 당대 문화인의 정체성에서 찾는 데 의의를 둔다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on literature during the war and the early 1950s, examining cultural discourse and global discussions, particularly in the magazine ,『Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye(The Cultural World)』 which was published from 1953 to 1954. 『Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye(The Cultural World)』 addressed various cultural fields such as literature, movies, and art, and aimed to reflect the cultural needs and modern sensibilities of the wartime period. The war era played an important role in preparing and producing literary discourse in the 1950s, emphasizing global and modern discussions raised after liberation, and was a crucial time for expressing desires and anxieties about modernity. 『Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye(The Cultural World)』 established cultural discourse that communicated the reality of foreign culture and served as a reservoir for modernity, contributing to the reconstruction of the nation after the war. The magazine's intention to “contribute to culture” was not rooted in political participation based on Americanism or anti-communist ideology, which were mainstream at the time. Instead, the “culture” they aimed for was one that imagined and realized the future of their culture with “cultural people” centered around writers and journalists. Unlike other literature-oriented magazines, 『Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye(The Cultural World)』 became a preservation center for modern world culture, including movies, theater, philosophy, literature, art, and music, partly due to its cultural tendencies and globalist identity. This study is significant in ensuring the continuity of literary history in the 1950s and in exploring the origins of globalism, a discourse representing the postwar era, from the perspective of contemporary cultural figures.
