국문 초록

본고는 20세기 전기 구어 자료에 나타난 접속부사의 분포와 기능 특성을 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 현대국어 초기 접속부사에서 관찰되는 사용 양상을 정리하고, 현대국어에서 나타나는 접속부사의 다층적 기능이 이른 시기에 형성되어 이어져 왔음을 논증하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 20세기 전기의 접속부사는 21세기와 유사하게 {그러면}, {그러나}, {그리고}, {그런데}, {그래서} 등 ‘그러-’ 계열의 접속부사가 고빈도로 실현되는 분포적 특성을 보였다. 그러나 개별 접속부사의 분포에 있어서는 시기별 차이가 존재하였는데, 이는 개별 접속부사의 형성 시기, 기능, 자료 특징 등과 관련이 있는 것으로 해석하였다. 20세기 전기의 접속부사는 선･후행 요소 간의 관계적 접속은 물론 접속 관계가 명료하지 않은 느슨한 접속에도 사용되었다. 이에 더 나아가 당시의 접속부사는 담화적인 측면에서 ‘발화 시작, 발화 종결, 발화 얼버무림, 발언권 유지(디딤말), 발언권 가져오기, 긍정･동의, 재촉하기’ 등과 같은 기능을 수행하며 다층적인 기능 양상을 보이기도 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to study the distribution and functional characteristics of conjunctive adverbs appearing in spoken language corpus of the early 20th century. Through this, we presented the patterns in which conjunctive adverbs were used in spoken language and attempted to argue that the multi-layered connecting function of conjunctive adverbs was formed and continued during the early modern Korean language. Similar to the 21st century, conjunctive adverbs in the early 20th century had a distributional characteristic in which ‘그러-’ type conjunctive adverbs {그러면}, {그러나}, {그리고}, {그런데}, {그래서} appeared with high frequency. On the other hand, there were differences by period in the distribution of individual lists of conjunctive adverbs, and this was interpreted to be related to the formation period of individual conjunctive adverbs, register, and the expansion and contraction of their functions. Meanwhile conjunctive adverbs in the early 20th century also performed discourse functions in addition to general connecting functions. The discourse functions of conjunctive adverbs showed various aspects, including ‘utterance beginning’, ‘utterance finishing’, ‘utterance evading’, ‘filler’, ‘interruption’, ‘positive’, ‘utterance prompting’.
