국문 초록

이 글은 현대시에 나타난 미디어 장치와 조에의 생명 정치를 라디오를 중심으로 알아보았다. 통제와 해방이라는 이중적 기능을 가진 라디오가 시에는 어떻게 수용되어 재현되고 있는지, 이를 통해 타전하는 시의 의미가 무엇인지 알아보기 위하여, 벌거벗은 생명(Zeo)의 차원에서 매체의 권력적 장치로부터 해방 가능성을 탐색하는 조르조 아감벤과 들뢰즈 ･ 가타리의 논의를 참고하였다. 아감벤은 지배 권력의 환속화 논리에 대응하는 개념으로 세속화 언어를 제안하고 있으며, 들뢰즈 ･ 가타리는 특정 이데올로기가 작동하기 이전에 실행되는 인간의 욕망과 관련하여 끊임없이 생성, 이행(移行)되는 정동을 이야기하고 있다. 이러한 논의는 시에서 라디오 소리가 중단되는 틈새에 다른 언어(소리)가 틈입하는 소리로 실현되고 있었다. 그러나 구체적 대응 방식은 시대별, 시인별로 조금씩 다르다. 1960년대 이후부터 1990년대 초반에 이르는 시에서 라디오는 개인을 경제적 존재로 훈육하는 동시에 정치적으로 억압해온 이데올로기적 국가 / 자본의 지배 장치에 저항하는 소재로 활용된다. 시에서 주로 공공장소에 출현하는 라디오는 당대의 시대 변화를 알리는 뉴스나 광고음을 들려주지만, 그 소리를 듣는 순간 시인들은 자신이 체험한 역사적 사건을 떠올린다. 이 과정에서 권력적 지배 장치로서의 라디오 기능은 중지되고, 산업화 근대화의 논리에 의해 묻히거나 억압된 존재의 음성이 부각된다. 이러한 라디오 소리는 이데올로기적 국가 / 자본의 환속화 논리를 중단시키고 새로운 소리를 들려주려는 세속화적 장치와 관계한다. 그러나 현재에 도래한 과거가 새로운 사건으로 전환되지 않는다는 점에서 권력적 장치에 포획된 개인의 해방을 이야기하는 데는 한계가 있다. 한편 2000년대 이후 시에서 라디오는 첨단 기술과 초국가적 자본이 지배하는 현실의 중력으로부터 비켜나 새로운 시간으로 이행하려는 시인들의 열망과 맞물려 제시된다. 시에서 라디오는 자본이 지배하는 사적 영토에 놓여 있거나, 개인의 내면에 저장된 기억의 형태로 드러난다. 공적 담론으로부터 차단된 공간에서 절대 고독을 경험하는 자아들은 텅 빈 시간 속에서 자의식이 균열되는 상황에 이르게 되며, 이 틈새에 출현하는 라디오는 낯선 소리를 촉발하는 동인이자, 시적 자아를 다른 세계로 이행하게 하는 일종의 매개체로 기능한다. 시적 자아가 사라진 공백에서 흘러나오는 낯선 소리는 현실에서 삭제되거나 배제된 타자(他者)의 음성과 관계하며, 이 존재의 모호한 음성은 이성 / 기술자본의 기율로 구축된 현실 논리에 대응하는 정치적 언어로 치환된다. 현대시에서 라디오는 대상을 훈육하는 규율적 장치로서의 매체가 아니라, 권력적 질서에 대항하는 소재로 쓰이고 있음을 알 수 있다. 라디오 소리는 역사적 사건과, 지금-이곳에 여전히 존재하는 타자의 고통을 감각하게 하는 사회문화적, 정치적 울림으로써, 각종 시각 영상매체에 잠식된 우리의 의식을 깨워내는 역할을 하고 있다는 점에서 소중한 의미를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This article explores the adoption of media devices in modern poetry, with a central focus on radio, within the context of the biopolitics of Zoe. To understand how radio, with its dual functions of control and liberation, is being received and transformed in poetry, as well as to decipher its significance, this study draws on the discussions of Giorgio Agamben and Deleuze and Guattari, as they explore the potential for liberation from the power devices of media from the dimension of bare life (Zoe). Agamben introduces the concept of secularized language as a response to the logic of the secularization of sovereign power, while Deleuze and Guattari continuously discuss affect, which is ceaselessly generated and transitioned in relation to human desires prior to the operation of specific ideologies. These discussions manifest when radio sounds infiltrate the gaps during poetry. However, the specific approaches vary slightly depending on the era and the poet. From the 1960s to the early 1990s, radio in poetry serves as a material that simultaneously disciplines individuals into economic existence and resists the ideological domination of the contemporary state/capital power. Radio, predominantly found in public spaces in poetry of that period, broadcasts news and advertisements that announce contemporary changes. However, as poets listen to these sounds, they recall historical events they have experienced. In this process, the function of radio as a powerful control device is halted, and the voices of suppressed or oppressed existences, silenced by the logic of industrialization and modernization, come to the forefront. These radio sounds are related to secular devices striving to interrupt the logic of the secularization of state/capital power and introduce new sounds. However, there are limitations in discussing the liberation of individuals captured by power devices, as the past that has arrived in the present does not transform into new events. In contrast, from the 2000s onwards, radio in poetry is presented in harmony with the desires of poets who aim to escape the reality dominated by advanced science and technology and supranational capital, heading towards a new time. In poetry, radio is placed in the personal territory surrounded by civilization and capital, or it is revealed in the form of memories. The solitude and fear experienced in this space become triggers for cracks in consciousness. The radio sounds heard here serve as mediators that lead to different worlds and function as agents that trigger the migration of emotions. The ambiguous sounds of radio-typewriters, emerging in the absence of a poet's consciousness, are related to the return of others (alterity) who have been deleted or excluded in reality. The voice of existence is transformed into a political language that reveals the concealed truth of dominant reality. Through this exploration, it becomes evident that in contemporary poetry, radio is not merely a regulatory device that trains subjects by delivering messages but is also employed as a material that resists power structures. The sound of the radio holds significant meaning as it remembers the past, evokes the sensations of the suffering of others still present here and now, and serves as a sociocultural and political resonance that awakens our consciousness, which has been overshadowed by various visual media.
