성인여성 지적장애인의 공동생활거주시설 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 공동생활거주시설을 이용하고 있는 성인여성 지적장애인들의 관점을 중심으로 시설생활을 그대로 보여주며, 생활 속에서 경험하고 실제로 겪는 삶을 들여다보는 실증연구를 진행하는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 공동생활거주시설에 입소한 5명의 성인여성 지적장애인을 선정하였으며, 참여관찰, 장애인들의 일기장, 집단면담, 심층면담을 통하여 자료 수집을 하였다. 수집된 자료 분석에는 귀납적 범주분석과 지속적 비교분석을 하였으며 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘새로운 환경과 관계 형성의 어려움’으로 이는 새로운 환경에 적응하면서 느끼는 스트레스, 새로운 사람들과의 관계 형성과 역할에 대한 기대와 부담감이 요인으로 도출되었다. 둘째, ‘공동생활 속 긍정적 소통의 어려움’은 부정적 소통의 문제와 친밀한 소통의 부재로 나타났다. 셋째, ‘반복되는 이별에서 오는 정서적 아픔’은 입소자나 사회복지사와의 이별로 인해 관계 형성에 대한 부정적 요인이 작용하였다. 넷째, ‘제한적 여가생활과 독립 공간의 부재’는 원치 않은 프로그램 참여의 부담감, 통제된 여가생활과 이성 교제의 문제로 나타났고, 입소자간의 다툼과 독립적인 공간의 필요성을 호소하였다. 마지막으로 ‘경제활동과 홀로서기’의 결과가 자립 욕구에 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구 결과를 토대로 성인여성 지적장애인이 공동생활 속에서 긍정적인 자립의 욕구를 가질 수 있도록 정서적 지지, 관계형성 프로그램, 자립 욕구에 따른 환경변화의 필요성을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to conduct empirical research on the perspectives of female adults with intellectual disabilities who use shared living facilities, by observing their daily life experiences. Five female adults with intellectual disabilities who live on shared facilities were chosen, and data was collected through participatory observation, analysis on their diaries, group interviews and in-depth interviews. The data was then analyzend inductive categorical analysis and constant comparison the research results are as follows: First, 'difficulties of living in a new environment and forming relationships 'included stress from adjusting to a new environment, and expectations and burdens that arise in forming relationships with new people and roles. Second, 'difficulties with positive communication in co-living' included negative communication and lack of intimate communication. Third, 'emotional pain from repeated separation' had negative effects on forming relationship as with experiences of separation from other members or social workers whom they trusted and leaned on. Fourth, 'limited recreational life and lack of private space” were observed, referring to the burdens of mandatory participation in unwanted controlled recreational life, and, in romantic relationships, the challenges of acknowledging quarrels between partners and the necessity of their own private spaces. Finally, 'economic activities and being independent' influenced the desire for independence. In conclusion, the study recommended emotional support, a program for forming relationships and changes in the environment to encourage female adults with intellectual disabilities to develop a desire for independence in the context of shared living experiences.
