국문 초록

본 논문은 세계 구비서사시의 판도 속에서 한국의 판소리가 과연 어떤 위치와 의미를 갖고 있는가를 고찰한 것이다. 세계 여러 민족의 구비서사시에는 한국의 서사무가(무속서사시)처럼 종교, 신화적 언어 사고에 기초한 것들이 다수 있고, 다시 이들 구비서사시에 기초하여 새로운 형태의 구비서사시가 만들어지거나, 애초의 구비서사시들이 변모를 거듭하여 전혀 새로운 형태의 구비서사시로 만들어지거나 하는 것들을 볼 수 있다. 구비서사시의 판도에서 한 축에 종교적, 신화적 언어/사고 등에 기초한 것들이 있다면, 다른 한 축은 사회비판적, 기록문화적 언어/사고 등에 기초한 것들이 있다. 따라서 세계 구비서사시의 판도 내지는 편폭을 살펴보는 데 있어 종교성이나 그것의 약화된 형태인 신화적 사고는 중요한 기준이 될 것이다. 이를 판소리에 적용하여 본다면, 위치상 판소리는 그 중간 정도에 있으며, 의미상 기록문화적 언어/사고에 침윤당해 왔음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the meaning of and position occupied by Korea's pansori within the domain of world oral narrative poetry. The oral narrative poetry of various peoples around the world, like Korea's narrative shaman songs (shamanic narrative poems), contain a great number of examples based on religious and mythological language and thinking, and these give birth to new forms of oral narrative poetry either through the creation of new forms based on the old or through the transformation of old forms into new. If works based on religious and mythological language and thinking represents one axis of the domain of oral narrative poetry, then the other axis consists of works based on socially critical and written culture language and thinking. Accordingly, religiosity, or its weakened form of mythological thinking, becomes an important standard when examining the domain or breadth of world oral narrative poetry. If we apply this standard to pansori, it falls somewhere in the middle of the spectrum in terms of position, and it has been permeated by written culture language and thinking in terms of meaning.
