국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 1829년 브뤼기에르 신부가 파리외방전교회에 보낸서한의 역사신학적 의미를 발견하는 것이다. 우리는 I장의 역사적 배경 연구를 통해서 1825년 유진길의 서한이 1827년에 로마 교황청에 전달되고, 조선 교회의 선교사 파견과 안정적인 사목을 위해서 조선 교회의 지역 교회 설정이 필요했다는 역사적 상황을 알 수 있었다. 로마 교황청은 북경교구의 박해상황과 포르투갈의 선교보호권의 영향으로부터 자유로운 선교 단체를 통한 조선 교구의 선교를 필요로 했다. 파리외방전교회의 조선 교회 선교를 위한 교황청의 교섭은 1827년 9월 1일 이후 성과를 내지 못했고, 1829년 5월 19일 브뤼기에르 신부의 서한이 파리외방전교회의 조선 선교를위한 역할에 큰 영향을 주게되었다는 역사적 사실을 발견할 수 있었다. 연구의 II장에서 우리는 브뤼기에르 신부의 서한을 분석하면서, 브뤼기에르 신부가 서한을 통해 조선 교회를 위한 파리외방전교회의 선교에 긍정적 입장을 밝혔고, 자신의 조선 선교 의지를 밝혔다는 사실을 구체적으로 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이 서한은 브뤼기에르 신부의 조선 선교에 대한 긍정적 시선과 조선 교회의 어려움에 대한 깊은 공감, 순교에 대한 신앙적 관점과 선교의 적극성이라는 주제를 담고 있었다. 이 서한은 파리외방전교회의 조선 선교에 대한 논의를 재점화한 의미가 있으며, 브뤼기에르 신부의 조선 선교에대한 열정과 시선을 확인할 수 있는 역사신학적 가치를 가진다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to discover the historical and theological meaning of the letter sent by Father Bruggières to the Paris Foreign Missions Society in 1829. Through the historical background study in Chapter I, we were able to know the historical situation that the letter of Yoo Jin-gil in 1825 was delivered to the Vatican in 1827, and that the Joseon Church needed to set up local churches for missionary dispatch and stable pastoral care. The Vatican needed missionary work in the Diocese of Joseon through missionary organizations free from the persecution situation in the Diocese of Beijing and the influence of Portugal’s Right to Protect Missions. Negotiations by the Holy See for the mission of the Paris Foreign Missions Society in Korea did not come to fruition after September 1, 1827, and the letter of Father Brugières on May 19, 1829 had a great influence on the role of the Paris Foreign Missions Society for the Joseon mission. In Chapter II of the study, while analyzing Father Brugière’s letter, we found that Father Brugière expressed his positive attitude toward the mission of the Paris Foreign Missions Society for the Korean Church through the letter and revealed his will for missionary work in Joseon. could be examined in detail. This letter contained the themes of Father Bruggier’s positive view of Joseon mission, deep sympathy for the difficulties of the Joseon Church, religious viewpoint on martyrdom, and active missionary work. This letter has the meaning of rekindling the discussion on Joseon missions of the Paris Foreign Missions Society, and has historical and theological value to confirm Father Bruggière’s passion and gaze for Joseon missions.
