Since numerous unnamed martyrs lived, died and buried in Hanti, Hanti Catholic community can be called Hanti Martyrs’ sanctuary. Along with Sin-na-mu-gol, Hanti is a root and a cradle of Archdiocese of Daegu. In order to avoid persecution, martyrs and faithful ancestors built a Catholic Christian community in Hanti. This study seeks to examine Hanti Catholic Christian Community as a cradle of Archdiocese of Daegu rather than as Martyrs’ sanctuary. Due to lack of historical records, there has been a good deal of criticism on the origin of Hanti Catholic Christian community. Therefore, this study seeks introduce the past studies on when and how Hanti Catholic Christian community began. Furthermore, this study attempts to present Hanti Catholic Christian community as a cradle of Archdiocese of Daegu. To do that, this study seeks to explore the Christians who lived in Hanti and their descendants. Within this context, this study seeks to examine the important roles of those descendants in the beginning of Archdiocese of Daegu.
