국문 초록

이 글은 그동안의 신라 군사조직에 대한 연구성과에 대해 살피고 향후 연구과제에 대해 정리한 것이다. 신라의 군사조직에 대해서는 『삼국사기』 무관조 범군호 부분을 통해 확인할 수 있다. 신라 군사조직에 대한 언급은 조선 후기부터 시작되었다. 이 시기는 역대의 군제를 정리하거나 당대의 군정･군제 개혁을 위해 역대의 병제를 언급하면서 신라 군사조직이 언급되었다. 신라 군사조직에 관해 본격적인 연구가 시작된 시기는 근대적 역사연구법이 도입된 1900년대 이후이다. 이 시기 한국 역사에 대한 관심이 표명되면서, 역사지리적인 측면의 실증적인 연구가 이루어졌는데, 신라 군사조직도 예외는 아니었다. 1945년 광복 이후 신라 군사조직에 대한 연구는 더욱 심화하였다. 제도적인 측면에서 신라 군사조직의 대략적인 모습을 파악할 수 있는 연구들이 발표되었고, 이와 함께 군사조직과 지방제도를 연결한 연구도 진행되었다. 이때의 연구는 이후 군사조직 연구의 근간이 되었다. 1970년대부터는 앞 시기의 연구성과를 바탕으로 대상 시기를 한정하여 개별 군사조직이나 특정 군관직에 대해 연구하는 등 신라 군사조직에 대한 연구가 더욱 세분되었다. 1990년대 이후부터 현재까지는 매우 소략한 기록으로 그 실체를 파악하기 어려웠던 군사조직에 대해 관심을 두고 연구성과가 나타났으며, 군사조직의 변화과정을 추적하거나 신라 방어체계와 연결하여 군사조직을 운용하는 부분에 관한 연구도 발표되었다. 절대적으로 부족한 사료 속에서도 연구자들이 끊임없이 노력한 결과, 질적으로나 양적으로 신라 군사조직에 대한 연구성과가 크게 진전하였고 축적되었다. 그러나 아직 해결해야 할 부분도 적지 않다. 이후에도 더 많은 군사조직 연구가 진행되어 신라 군사조직과 관련하여 많은 부분이 밝혀지기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This article reviews the results of research on the Silla military organization and summarizes future research issues. Silla's military organization can be found in the Bumgunho record of Mugwan section, in the 『Samguksagi(History of the Three Kingdoms)』. Mention of the Silla military organization began in the late Joseon Dynasty. In the late Joseon Dynasty period, the Silla military organization was mentioned in order to organize the military system of the past or to reform the military government and military system. Actual research on the Silla military organization with modern historical research methods was began after the 1900s. The interest in Korean history during this period led to empirical research on historical and geographical aspects, and also for the Silla military organization. After the liberation of Korea in 1945, the study of the Silla military organization intensified. Studies were published that provided an overview of the Silla military organization from an institutional perspective, and studies were also conducted that linked the military organization to the local system. These studies became the basis for later research on military organizations. From the 1970s, research on Silla's military organization became more detailed, with studies focusing on individual military organizations or specific military offices based on the results of previous studies. From the 1990s to the present, researchers have research achievements in military organizations that have been difficult to identify due to very sketchy records, and studies have been published to trace the process of change in military organizations and the operation of military organizations in connection with the Silla defense system. As a result of the constant efforts of researchers in the face of absolute scarcity, both qualitatively and quantitatively research on the Silla military organization has been greatly advanced and accumulated. However, there are still many things that need to be resolved. It is hoped that more research on military organizations will be conducted in the future and much will be revealed about the Silla military organization.
