영화음악의 기법 적용에 관한 연구

국문 초록

이 글은 영화에 사용된 다양한 음악을 통하여 영화음악기법을 분류하고 연구한 논문이다. 특히 영화음악이 효과적으로 활용되었다고 보이는 김지운 감독의 영화 ‘밀정’ 과 영화 ‘악마를 보았다’에 사용된 음악을 분석하여 각각의 음악기법과 그 효과에 대해 살펴보았다. 이 연구를 통해 영화 전체에 적용되는 유도동기가 영화의 주제를 전달하는 데 그 효과를 나타낸다는 것을 재확인하였으며, 또한 상황에 상반되게 적용된 반어적 음악 또한 그 효과를 극대화시킨다는 것을 확인하였다. 긴박한 상황이 연출되는 장면이나 긴장감을 표현하는 씬에서 불협화음을 반복적으로 사용하였을 때 그 효과가 배가되는 것을 알 수 있고, 이러한 음악사용을 일정한 체계를 만들어 그림을 그려 활용할 때 동일한 효과를 낼 수 있을 것이라 제안하였다. 영화음악에 대한 논문은 적잖게 발표되고 있으나 영화음악기법에 대한 연구는 유도동기기법 외에는 연구결과가 미미하다. 이에 이 연구는 영화음악에 활용된 음악기법들을 정리하고 명명한 데 그 의의가 있으며 구체적인 사례를 분석하여 영화에 다양한 음악기법들을 적용하는 데 일종의 모형을 제시한 것에 의미를 두겠다. 음악이 아닌 음향의 효과에 대하여 거론하지 못한 것에 제한점을 두며 이후 영화음악과 음향의 활용에 대한 연구가 이루어지길 바란다.

영문 초록

This paper is a study that classifies and examines film music techniques through various types of music used in films. In particular, this study analyzes the music used in Kim Jee-woon’s films, ‘The Age of Shadows’ (2016) and ‘I Saw The Devil’ (2010), which appear to effectively utilize film music, and examines their respective music techniques and effects. Through this study, it was reaffirmed that the leitmotif, which is applied throughout the film, can effectively convey the theme of the film, and it was also confirmed that the application of irony music, applied contrary to the situation, maximizes its effect. It was observed that when dissonance is repeatedly used in scenes that depict tense or suspenseful situations, its effect is intensified. Therefore, it is proposed that creating a consistent system for utilizing such music can produce the same effect and enhance the overall visual experience. While there have been numerous studies on film music, research on film music techniques beyond the leitmotif has been relatively limited. Therefore, this study aims to categorize and identify the music techniques used in film music and analyze specific cases and propose a model for applying various music techniques to films. Although this study did not address the effects of sound other than music, it is hoped that further research will be conducted on the use of both film music and sound effects in the future.
