국문 초록

이 글에서 저자는 지난 35년 동안 민중신학을 접하며 배운 것을 개인적으로 되돌아보고, 탈식민주의적 관점에서, 상황신학적 관점에서, 문화 간 신학의 관점에서 민중신학을 살피고 있다. 저자는 민중신학이 예수와 민중이 하나가 된다는 것을 강조한 점, 신인 협동의 십자가 신학을 앞세운 점, 성서와 한국의 문화적 · 종교적 전통이 서로 결합한다는 것을 강조한 점, 이야기를 신학의 주제로 삼은 점, 민중을 역사의 주체로 본 점 등이 제1세대 민중신학의 영속적인 유산이라고 본다. 저자는 민중신학이 급속한 상황 변화에 대응하여 2세대 민중신학으로 발전하는 과정을 분석했고, 탈식민주의적 관점에서 한국이 지역차원의 제국주의 국가로 등장하는 상황에서 민중신학이 직면한 도전을 분석했고, 민중신학이 독일, 북남미, 중국, 대만, 홍콩, 인도, 팔레스타인 등 다양한 컨텍스트에서 신학을 하는 사람들에게 어떤 영향을 주었는가를 살폈다. 저자는 민중신학이 문화 간 신학을 끌어들이고 네트워크를 형성함으로써 21세기에 새로운 신학으로 발전하여 아시아에서 생동적인 신학을 형성하는 데 크게 이바지하리라고 본다.

영문 초록

In this article, the author personally looks back on what he has learned from encountering Minjung Theology over the past 35 years, and examines Minjung Theology from the perspectives of post-colonial, contextual, and intercultural theology. The author sees the enduring legacy of the Minjung Theologians of the first generation in the following: the emphasis on the close relationship between Jesus and Minjung, a cooperative theologia crucis, the linking of the biblical with the Korean cultural-religious tradition, story-telling, and the status of Minjung as the subject of history. Here the profile of a Protestant liberation theology becomes recognizable. The author sees into that Minjung Theology has developed into the second-generation Minjung Theology in response to the contextual transformation process, and analyzes the challenges Minjung Theology has faced in the situation in which Korea emerged as a regional imperialist country from a postcolonial perspective. The author investigates how Minjung theology has been accepted by or/and affected a variety of theologians doing theology in various contexts such as in Germany, North and South America, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, and Palestine. The author believes that Minjung theology, which flourished in the Korean context of the 1970s and 80s, can be renewed in the 21st century through networking and the inclusion of cross-cultural perspectives, and continue to make an important contribution to a vibrant theology in Asia.
