민중신학의 태동과 발전

국문 초록

민중신학은 크게 세 단계를 거쳐 오늘에 이르고 있다. 민중신학은 한국 현대사에서 민중 현실과 민중운동에 대한 인식의 변화에 대응해서 신학적 담론의 내용과 형식을 바꾸어가며 발전했다. 나는 민중신학의 주제와 방법에 초점을 맞추어 각 단계의 민중신학이 보이는 특성을 규명하고자 한다. 민중신학의 제1단계는 민중신학적 담론의 첫 형태가 등장하는 시기이다. 민중신학의 태동에 영향을 준 요인들은 많이 있으나 결정적인 것은 전태일 사건의 충격이었다. 안병무, 현영학, 서남동, 김용복 등은 이름 없이 고난을 겪는 민중이 역사의 주체라고 선언했고, 역사 앞에서 민중과 더불어 신학하는 관점과 방법을 벼리려고 애썼다. 그들은 사건의 신학, 성령론적-공시적 해석, 탈신학, 반신학, 민중의 사회전기 등과 같이 민중신학의 특이성을 보여주는 신학적 담론 형태를 제시했다. 1980년대에 들어서자 민중신학은 제2단계에 접어들었다. 민중신학은 1980년 광주 민중항쟁을 통해 민중이 역사변혁의 주체로 등장했음을 인식하고, 민중해방운동에 참여하는 기독교인들의 실천을 뒷받침하는 신학 이론을 펼쳤다. 소장 민중신학자들은 사건의 신학 패러다임을 운동의 신학 패러다임으로 바뀌었고, 기독교인들의 실천을 매개로 해서 사회과학적 현실분석과 신학적 성찰을 서로 결합였으며, 기독교인들의 운동을 사상적으로 뒷받침하는 유물론적 신학을 발전시켰다. 민중신학은 1987년 헌정체제의 수립, 현실 사회주의 국가의 붕괴와 ‘역사의 종말’ 담론의 확산, 시민운동의 대두와 민중운동의 쇠퇴, 포스트 담론의 유행, 지구화와 금융화의 충격 등을 겪으며, 역사 앞에서 민중과 더불어 신학을 하는 관점과 방법을 더 철저하게 벼리는 제3단계로 넘어갔다. 제3단계 민중신학자들은 민중신학의 주제와 방법을 다양하게 선택하고, 여러 유형의 민중신학적 담론을 형성하고 있다. 그 가운데 주목할 만한 담론들은 1) 안병무, 서남동의 신학을 한국 지성사의 맥락에서 평가하고자 하는 담론 유형, 2) 민중신학의 신학적 빈곤을 극복하고 민중신학의 신학적 체계를 구축하고자 하는 유형의 담론, 3) 범재신론으로써 민중신학의 형이상학적 근거를 설정하고자 하는 유형의 담론, 4) 포스트 이론을 통해 민중에 대한 개념적 이해를 치밀하게 다지고 민중에 관한 미시 담론을 형성하고자 하는 유형의 담론, 5) 운동의 신학과 물의 신학을 더 첨예하게 발전시켜 생태학과 정치경제학의 결합에 근거한 생태학적 경제학의 관점에서 생태학적 반자본주의의 방안을 제시하고 이를 뒷받침하는 유물론적 생명신학을 펼치고자 하는 유형의 담론 등이다.

영문 초록

Minjung theology has developed up to today through three major stages. The content and form of Minjung theological discourse have changed in response to changes in the reality of Minjung and their movements in modern Korean history. Focusing on the themes and methods of Minjung Theology, I will analyze the historical development of Minjung Theology and identify the characteristics of Minjung Theology. 1. First Stage Minjung Theology: Minjung Theology was born in the shock of the Jeon Tae-il Incident. Through that event, Minjung theologians realized that the Jesus incident was reenacted through Minjung incidents, and were convinced that Minjung were the subject of history. They tried to forge the perspective and method of doing theology with Minjung in front of history. They presented theological discourse forms that show the singularity of Minjung theology, such as the theology of events, pneumatologicalsynchronic interpretation, liberation from theology, anti-theology, and social biography of Minjung. 2. Second Stage Minjung Theology: After experiencing the 1980 Gwangju Minjung Uprising, Minjung Theology entered the second stage. Minjung theology recognized that Minjung emerged as the actual subject of historical change, and developed a theological theory that supported the practice of Christians participating in the liberation movement of Minjung. The Minjung theologians at the second stage changed the paradigm of theology of event to that of theology of movement, combined social scientific analysis of reality and theological reflection through the practice of Christians, and developed a materialistic theology that ideologically supported the Christian movement. 3. The 3rd stage Minjung Theology: Minjung Theologians responded to the establishment of the constitutional system in 1987, the collapse of the real existing socialist states and the spread of the 'end of history' discourse, the actualization of civil movement and the weakening of Minjung movement, the prevalence of the post-discourse, the shocks of globalization and financialization, etc. They have refined perspectives and methods of doing theology with Minjung in front of history more thoroughly. They have chosen various themes and methods, and have produced various types of Minjung theological discourse. Noteworthy discourses are as follows: 1) the type of discourse that tries to evaluate the theology of Byung-Mu Ahn and Nam-Dong Seo in the context of Korean intellectual history, 2) the type of discourse that tries to overcome the theological poverty of Minjung Theology and establishes a theological system of Minjung Theology, 3) a type of discourse that seeks to establish panentheism as the metaphysical basis of minjung theology, 4) a type of discourse that seeks to solidify the conceptual understanding of minjung through post theories and form a micro-discourse about minjung, 5) a type of discourse that seeks to develop the theology of movement and materialist theology more sharply to present a plan for ecological anti-capitalism and to develop a materialist theology of life that supports it.
