한국 민중사상의 맥: 신휴머니즘과 자연-신-인간적 영성

국문 초록

이 논문은 한국민중신학을 이해하되 그동안 일반적인 단순한 이해 곧 “민중신학은 1970-80년대 한국적 정치상황에서 발생한 일시적인 한국 정치신학이다”라는 이해 지평을 넓혀보려는 것이다. 민중신학은 한국적 ‘사회정치신학’임에는 틀림없으나 그것은 오랜 한국 민중사에서 분출되고 확인되는 한민족의 민중사상 맥을 잇는 것임을 주장하려는 글이다. 그 특징은 서구적 근대화 이념이 강요하는 자연, 인간, 신의 상호관계성을 부정하고 합리화, 세속화, 물질환원주의를 초래했음을 비판적으로 성찰하는 것이다. 이 논문은 한국 민중들의 삶과 저항과 투쟁 속에 면면이 흐르는 지향성을 네오휴머니즘(Neo-humanism)이라고 명명하고 그 구체적 영성의 특징은 ‘자연-신-인간적 영성’(cosmotheandric spirituality)으로서 ‘한국민중사상과 운동의 맥’을 밝히려는 것이다. 그 사례로서 한국 근현대사 200년 동안 민중운동과 사상의 대표적 인물로서 해월 최시형, 신천 함석헌, 죽재 서남동의 사상을 사례로서 선별하여 살펴본 것이다. 오늘날 지구촌 문명과 한국 사회가 직면한 세기말적인 위기들 곧 자연생태계 교란과 바이러스 전염병 대유행, 기후붕괴와 농수산물 수급체계의 붕괴, 국가주의 망령과 국지적 전쟁 비극, 문명과 인종과 종교 이념 차이로 발생하는 분쟁과 증오 등을 극복하기 위해서는 새로운 문명패러다임전환이 요청되는 시기이다. 한국 민중사상의 맥으로서 흐르는 네오휴머니즘과 ‘자연-신-인간적 영성’이 위기극복의 신학적 기초존재론으로서 참고되길 희망하는 논문이다.

영문 초록

This article is an attempt to illuminate Korean Minjung Theology in the context of the Korean traditional Minjung's philosophy of life. Since 18th century, Korean history has been struggled with 'modernization' of the western worldview regarding with industrialism and secularism. The fundamental principle of the western concept of modernization is the autonomy of reason in every individual human being. In ordinary language of today, reason means the calculation of the businessman, the analysis of the natural scientist, and the construction of the engineer. As a result of modernization, God was driven out of the world and human beings have been isolated completely from the ecological nature itself and finally, nature has been exploited. In consequence, human civilization is confronted with ecological crisis, climate collapse, corona virus rage, etc. However, Korean Minjung traditions, like Donghak thought of Choi-sihyung and Ham's Siaal Thought as well as Minjung theology, pursuit neo-humanism and ‘cosmotheandric spirituality’, which are, as the pulse of Korean Minjung thought, contrast to the idea of western modernization. For neohumanism regarding ‘cosmotheandric spirituality,’ rationalism and mysticism do not stand in contradiction to each other, as is so often thought in secular humanism. As Tillich argues, ontological reason emerged within us out of the mystical experience, namely, the experience of the divine presence within us. For the ‘cosmotheandric spirituality’ of neohumanism, natureㆍ Godㆍhumanity are synchronically, mutually immanent coexistent in a mode of ‘perichoresis.’ Korean traditional Minjung thought corresponds with a panentheistic view of God. Panentheistic God does not coerce, or bribe the creature. Rather the divine love charms all creature (nature and human being) into the creative responding evolution.
