이미지 텍스트 읽기에서의 시가독성

국문 초록

본고의 사진시에 대한 논의는 문자 시대를 거쳐 디지털 시대 매체 변화가 가져온 시 구조의 변화 속에 문자와 사진이 어떻게 조직되고 어떻게 읽히는가의 의미 생성에 집중하고자 하였다. 이는 매체 자체보다도 문자 텍스트, 사진 이미지, 독자 관계를 중심으로 이미지 텍스트 읽기의 가능성, 즉 새로운 독법 모색을 의미한다. 먼저, 문자와 사진 두 표현 매체 관계에 따른 의미 생성 방식에 관심을 두고 사진시가 정박·중계·차연으로 읽힐 수 있는 가능성을 살폈다. 논의는 텍스트 속에 이미지가, 이미지 속에 텍스트가 어떻게 공존, 공생하면서 의미작용을 극대화하는가에 있다. 두 표현 매체는 정박으로 읽기와 중계로 읽기에서 지시적 혹은 내포적 의미를 일정한 방향으로 조종하여 조화 관계에 이르는 한편, 차연으로 읽기에서 당돌하게 병치되어 몰입을 차단하고 의미를 지연시켜 긴장 관계를 조성함으로써 사진시가 나아가야 할 방향을 제시한다. 또 지각 주체인 독자에 의해 사진시가 바라보기를 넘어서 지각하기를 통해 비선형적으로 읽힐 수 있는 가능성을 살폈다. 논의는 독자의 시선과 응시에 따라 사진의 의미작용이 공통의 반응 혹은 유도된 독해에서 벗어나 다양한 해석이 가능한가에 있다. 사진 이미지는 사진에 ‘무엇이 찍혀있는가’보다 독자가 ‘무엇을 보고 지각했는가’가 중요할 수밖에 없으며, 지각하기를 통해 평평한 사진 이미지는 독자만이 기억하는 시각적 서정을 불러일으키고 때로는 해독되지 않은 채로 남기도 한다. 가시성과 가독성이 합쳐진 시가독성에 대한 이해는 이미지 텍스트 읽기를 위한 한 가능성인 동시에 이미지 텍스트가 거둘 수 있는 새로운 미학적 효과에 대한 기대이다. 디지털 시대에 텍스트는 다양한 매체들을 손쉽게 결합, 변형하는 것을 가능케 함으로써 더 풍부한 암시와 환기를 통해 다의성을 회복하고 있다. 새로운 읽기 가능성, 독법에 더욱 유연해져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper puts an in-depth study on creating the meaning of how letters and photos are organized amid changes in the poetic structure brought by media transformation in the digital era after the era of letters in terms of photographic poetry discussion. It implies the possibility of image-oriented text reading, a novel method focusing on letter-based text, photographic images, and reader relationships rather than the medium itself. First, this paper identified the possibility that photographic poetry could be read with ancrage, relais, and différance, paying attention to the meaning generation method according to the relationship between text and photography. In this regard, it investigated how the image in the text and the text in the image coexist and have a symbiotic relationship to maximize the meaning. Those two expressive media manipulate the indicative or implicit meaning in a specific direction from ancrage, and relais reading, while being boldly juxtaposed in différance reading to block immersion and create a tense relationship, suggesting the direction of the photographic poetry. In addition, this study tried to identify the possibility that photographic poetry could be read nonlinearly through perception beyond viewing by readers who are the subject of perception. The discussion is on whether the significance of photography can be interpreted from various perspectives, depending on the seeing and perspective of the reader, breaking from a typical reaction or intended reading. Regarding photographic images, ‘What the reader has seen and perceived’ is more important than ‘What is taken in the picture.’ Flat photographic images evoke visual lyrical traits that only the reader remembers and sometimes remain undetected. An understanding of vilisibilité, which combines visibility and readability, is an expectation of new aesthetic effects from image text and a possibility for image text reading simultaneously. In the digital era, the text allows combining and transforming various media to recover polysemy through richer implications and evocation. It implies that readers should be more flexible in reading with new possibilities.
