비정형 그래프에 대한 예비 중등 수학교사 세 명의 교수를 위한 수학적 의미 분석

국문 초록

비정형 그래프는 ‘함수의 정의나 대수식 자체에 얽매이지 않고 실생활 맥락 및 불규칙한 변화를 나타내는 그래프’로서, 2015 개정 수학과 교육과정의 중학교 1학년에서 새롭게 강조된 개념이다. 비정형 그래프에 대한 교사의 이해와 관련된 그동안의 연구는 비정형 그래프에 대한 이해 수준이 높지 않은 교사가 존재한다는 것을 보여준다. 이는 교사가 수학적 아이디어를 이해하는 방식이 학생들의 수학적 아이디어 형성 방식에 밀접한 영향을 준다는 점에서, 교사가 비정형 그래프를 어떻게 이해하고 있는지 세밀하게 분석하여 교사교육에 반영할 필요성을 제기한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 예비교사 교육에서 가르치는 학교수학의 한 영역에 대한 구체적인 시사점을 제공하고자 비정형 그래프에 대한 예비 중등 수학교사의 MMT를 분석한다. 구체적으로, 예비교사가 구성한 비정형 그래프의 옳고 그름을 가려 예비교사 지식의 유무를 판단하는 것을 넘어, 비정형 그래프에 대하여 이들이 가진 개인의 의미에 주의를 기울임으로써 예비교사들의 응답을 다양한 관점에서 풍부하게 해석하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 비정형 그래프를 그리고 해석하는 두 개의 문항에 대한 설문과 반 구조화된(semi-structured) 면담에 참여한 15명의 예비교사 중 두 양 사이의 관계를 파악할 때 극명한 차이를 보인 세 명의 예비교사의 MMT 특징을 조사하였다. 마지막으로, 본 연구의 분석 결과를 통한 결론 및 교사교육에의 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The informal graph is ‘a graph showing real-life contexts and irregular changes without being bound by the definition of a function or algebraic equation’, and is a new concept that was introduced in the first year of middle school by the 2015 revised Korean mathematics curriculum. According to previous studies, some teachers do not have a high level of understanding of informal graph. This raises the need to analyze in detail how teachers understand informal graph and reflect it in teacher education, given that the way teachers understand mathematical ideas closely influences the way students form mathematical ideas. The present study analyzes the mathematical meaning for teaching of prospective mathematics teachers on the informal graph to provide specific implications for one area of school mathematics taught in pre-service teacher education. Specifically, we examined three of the 15 prospective participant teachers' ways of reasoning with two items all of which required them to draw and interpret informal graph through questionnaire and semi-structured interview. We paid attention to mathematical meaning for teaching of each the three teachers, who were chosen due to the distinctive ways they coordinated two quantities, brought forth in reasoning with informal graph. Finally, the conclusions and the implications for teacher education were discussed.
