국문 초록

본 논문은 일본에서 한국으로 이주한 후 다시 귀국을 선택한 일본 청년들의 귀국결정이유를 밝힘으로써, “근거리 라이프스타일 이주”가 가진 한계에 대해서 고찰한다. 라이프스타일 이주란 정치적, 경제적 조건이 이유가 되어서 선택하는 이민과 달리, 비교적 유복한 중산층이 자신의 의지로 문화적, 환경적으로 다른 장소로 이동하여, 생활양식의 질적인 전환을 꾀하는 이동형태이다. 일본 출신 청년들의 라이프스타일 이주를 다룬 선행연구에서는, 서구권 국가로의 이동을 사례로, 버블경제 붕괴가 가져 온 노동시장의 불안정과 집단주의 사회에서 느끼는 속박 등으로 인해 “살기 힘듦(生きづらさ)”이 이동을 촉진하는 주된 이유로 지적되어 왔다. 반면, 한국과 일본은 같은 동아시아에 위치하며, 지리와 문화적으로 근접성을 가지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 왜 일본의 청년들은 한국으로 이동함으로서 생활양식의 전환을 구하는가? 그리고 이러한 근접성은 한국을 떠나 일본으로 되돌아오는 선택과 어떤 식으로 관계를 갖고 있는지 밝힐 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 우선 한일간의 라이프스타일 이주의 증가 배경과 그 특징을 정리한 후에, ①한국에서 일본으로 귀국한 청년들의 인터뷰를 바탕으로, 지리적인, 문화적인 근접성이 국내이주와 비슷한정도로 “가벼운 라이프스타일 이주”를 가능하게 하며, 손쉬운 이동을 촉진하고 있음을 지적한다. 그와 동시에 ②라이프스타일 이주를 그 자체를 움직였던 요인이었던 “살기 힘듦”도 한국생활을 통해서 재생산되고 있음을 지적한다. 그리고, 귀국후에 이러한 “삶기 힘듦”이 상대화 되는 과정에서 한일간의 이주를 포함한 손쉬운 라이프스타일 이주와 제3국으로 이동하는 선택으로 이어지고 있음을 지적한다.

영문 초록

This thesis aimed to investigate why the Japanese (including Koreans in Japan, Zainichi) who migrated to Korea are returning to Japan. In addition, it explored the limitations of “short distance lifestyle migration.” Lifestyle migration is a new phenomenon that refers to changing one’s lifestyle by moving to a culturally and environmentally different place. Previous research has suggested that Japanese lifestyle migrants moved owing to the destabilization of the labor market due to the bubble burst in the early 1990s and an attempt to escape “iki-durasa (hard life)”(i.e., the constraints of society). This promoted the movement to Western countries that are culturally different compared to Japan. On the contrary, Korea and Japan are in same East Asian area and provide greater convenience, both in geographical and cultural terms. Nevertheless, the Japanese chose to migrate to Korea to enhance their way of living, and accessibility is a major factor in this kind of migration. In this thesis, I analyze about background and features of increasing lifestyle migrant, Japan to Korea and examined the perspectives of lifestyle migrants’ motivation to move from Japan to Korea through interviews. Findings revealed the following three points. First, geographical and cultural accessibility enables “continuous lifestyle migration” and promotes casual migration. Second, “iki-durasa,” which was the original factor that led to lifestyle migration is being replicated at present. Finally, individuals wish to avoid facing the realities of life, and therefore, they either move back to Korea or migrate to a third country. This movement style is one of the modalities of the “quality of life” transformation, and indicated which is missed by the one-way lifestyle migration of “moving to a different environment.”
