영문 초록

Together with research problems, hypotheses are the most important element for conducting a good research. It might be that academic writers especially in Korea used to overemphasize or misuse the importance of the hypothesis itself such that authors make his/her articles fall in spurious positivism. In that sense this paper purports to investigate these problems often neglected among writers. Authors analyze hypotheses’ types and trends of the given 234 articles appeared in the Journal of Tourism Sciences(JTS) and of 344 papers in the Annals of Tourism Research(ATR) during 1994-2001 period. The result shows that JTS writers tends to rely highly on quantitative research methods that test hypotheses by the questionnaire survey, whereas ATR writers used to depend on qualitative research methods in which hypotheses are not so important element in pursuing a research.
