국문 초록

학령기 KSL 학습자들이 성공적으로 한국 사회와 한국 학교에 정착할 수 있게 하기 위해서 1차적으로는 일정 수준의 한국어 능력을 갖추기 위한 한국어 능력 제고 교육 과정 및 교육 내용이 마련되어야 한다. 그렇지만 이들을 위한 한국어교육의 내용 설정은 단순히 한국어 의사소통 강화만을 목표로 할 수 없다. 왜냐하면 이들은 공교육 내에서 교과교육의 대상자이기도 하기 때문이다. 그런 점에서 KSL 학습자를 위한 한국어 교육은 ‘생활한국어 능력 강화 기능’과 ‘학습 보조적 기능’을 할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고 학습 보조적 기능을 가능하게 하는 데에는 구체적인 각 교과교육 내용을 학습하는 데에 전제가 되는 사고도구어, 범용지식어, 특정 교과의 상위 지식 체계에 속하는 어휘 등에 대한 교육이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 내용을 전제로 하여 일반 학급으로 진입하기 이전에 KSL 한국어교육 과정에 있는 학습자를 대상으로 한국어 의사소통 능력 향상을 도모하면서 동시에 과학교과의 기초 개념도 익힐 수 있게 하는 내용중심한국어교육의 한 모델로서의 ‘과학 한국어’ 수업의 내용과 방향을 모색하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

For KSL learners to successfully settle down in Korean schools and society, first there should be educational contents and curriculum to improve Korean language skills up to a certain level. However, the goal of these educational contents should not be limited to enhancing their Korean communication skills, since they are also targets of subject matter education within the public education. In this sense, Korean language education for KSL learners should focus on the function of ‘enhancing practical Korean skills’ for communication in schools and adjusting to the environments and the ‘auxiliary function’ to enable the abilities in their coursework. Moreover, in order to enable the auxiliary function, education should include academic vocabulary and widely used intellectual vocabulary that are fundamental in learning specific contents of each subject matters and also vocabularies that are applied in the higher knowledge systems of the curriculums. This research focuses on the contents and direction of the ‘Science Korean’ course, in order to let learners in the KSL Korean language curriculum enhance their communication skills and get familiar with the basic concepts of the science curriculum simultaneously.
