국립중앙박물관 소장 ｢동국대지도｣에 그려진 자연·인문지리요소 분석

국문 초록

조선후기 실학자 정상기는 백리척을 활용하여 한반도의 형태를 최초로 실제와 유사하게 그린 ｢동국지도｣를 작성하였다. 이후 그의 ｢동국지도｣는 조선 조정에서 우수한 지도로 평가되었고, 다수의 모사본이 작성되었다. 정상기의 ｢동국지도｣에는 전국을 한 장에 그린 ‘대전도’와 팔도를 8장으로 분할하여 그린 ‘팔도분도’가 존재한다. 국립중앙박물관에 소장된 ｢동국대지도｣는 ‘대전도’의 모사본 중 가장 원형에 가까운 것으로 알려져 있다. 아울러 도화서 화공이 작성한 것으로 추정할 정도로 지도 제작 수준이 높다. 이와 같은 중요성 때문에 국립중앙박물관 소장 ｢동국대지도｣는 2007년에 보물로 지정되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 ｢동국대지도｣에 기재된 자연지리요소, 인문지리요소 및 지명에 대해 분석하였다. 분석결과 이 지도에는 산과 산줄기, 강, 호수, 섬, 곶 등의 자연지리요소 및 군현, 찰방역, 군영, 진, 교통로, 봉수, 정계비 등의 인문지리요소가 기재되었음을 확인하였다. 아울러 지명은 조선에 2,101개, 중국에 311개, 일본에 112개가 기재되어 총 2,524개가 표기되었음을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

Jeong Sang-gi, a Silhak scholar in the late Joseon Dynasty, drew Donggukjido(Map of Korea) which firstly represent the shape of the Korean Peninsula similarly to reality using Baekri-chuk. Since then, his Donggukjido has been evaluated as an excellent map in the Joseon Dynasty, and a number of copies have been made. A number of copies of Donggukjido are divided into two categories in terms of represented areas. One category is “Daejeondo,” which draws the whole country in one sheet, and the other is “Paldo Bundo,” which is drawn by dividing the eight provinces into eight sheets. Donggukdaejido, which is housed in the National Museum of Korea, is known to be the closest to the original copy of “Daejeondo.” In addition, the level of map production is so high that it is estimated that it was drawn by the painter of Dohwaseo. Due to this importance, Donggukdaejido, owned by the National Museum of Korea, was designated as a Korean national treasure in 2007. In this study, the physical and human geographical elements and place-names described in the Donggukdaejido are analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it is confirmed that the map included physical geographical elements such as mountains, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, islands, capes and human geographical elements such as Gunhyeon, Chalbang Station, military headquarters, military camps, traffic routes, beacon, territorial tombstone. In addition, 2,101 geographical names of Korea were listed, 311 in China, and 112 in Japan, confirming that a total of 2,524 place-names were marked.
