李德懋와 朴齊家의 燕行錄에 나타난 중국인식 비교연구

국문 초록

본고는 1778년에 함께 연행길에 올라 동일한 일정을 어깨 나란히 했을 뿐만 아니라 평생 지우로 지낸 靑莊館 李德懋와 楚亭 朴齊家의 연행기록을 대상으로 비교 분석한 것이다. 흥미로운 것은 절친한 두 사람이 남긴 연행기록은 내용과 형식면에서 너무나도 판이하다는 것이다. 두 사람 모두 실학파의 이용후생학파의 중요 구성원이란 점에서 북학파의 사상과 주장을 공유했을 것임에도 불구하고 개인의 성격과 출신, 관심대상의 차이 등에 의해서 같은 중국체험에서도 중국에 대한 인식의 차이가 분명하게 나타났다. 이덕무의 경우는 어려운 환경에서 자라났기에 소심하고 조용한 성격을 지녔고, 또한 서책에 깊은 관심을 가졌기에 중국의 서책에 보다 깊은 관심을 보였다. 또한 중국연행도 자신의 저서인 『청비록』을 가져가 청나라 문인들과 교류를 하고자 했다. 박제가의 경우는 상대적으로 좋은 교육환경에서 자랐기에 도고한 성격을 지녔고, 조선의 개혁에 뜻을 두었기에 중국에 가서 주로 청나라 선진문물에 집중적인 관심을 보이고 그것을 조선에 적극 수용할 것을 극력 주장하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper compared the two Yeonhaengroks of Chongjangkwan Lee Deok-moo and Chojeong Park Je-ga who were intimate friends and went to Yan Ching at the same period, then, found that their Yeonhaengroks have totally different contents and forms. They were born as concubines’ sons. They belonged to Hansi Saga(Four poets doing special in Chinese poetry) in the late Joseon Dynasty. They were the important members of Iyonghusaeng(Promotion of Public Welfare) School and shared the thoughts and ideas of Bukhak(Northen Study) School. However, they had very different cognitions towards China because of their different personalities, work experience and concerns. Lee Deok-moo, who grew up in a difficult environment since childhood, was cautious and quiet in character and deeply interested in books. Therefore he showed a great deal of interest in Chinese book information, and he even took his book -“Chongbirok” when he went to Yan Ching wishing to communicate with the Chinese scholars of Qing Dynasty. Since Park Je-ga grew up in a relatively good educational environment since childhood, he was arrogant in character and determined to promote reformation of the Joseon Dynasty. He showed a great deal of interest in the advanced culture of Qing Dynasty when he went to Yan Ching, because he vigorously argued that it should be actively accepted in Joseon.
