국문 초록

본 연구는 1920~30년대 여말충신 ‘두문동 72현’ 기념사업을 기념실기집 발간과 사원 건립을 중심으로 추적함으로써 구왕조에 대한 충절이라는 다소 민감할 수 있는 주제가 누구에 의해 어떤 목적으로 재현되었는지 확인하고자 한다. 1920년대에 『麗朝忠烈錄』·『增修成仁錄』·『麗末忠賢錄』 등의 기념실기집이 각 문중과 개성 상인들의 주도로 출간되며, 1930년대는 개성 두문동사원의 건립을 위한 전국 유림들의 노력이 이어진다. 여기서는 특히 1924년 남을진(南乙珍, ?~?)을 현양하기 위한 목적으로 편찬된 『증수성인록』과 개성상인들의 후원으로 출간된 『여말충현록』을 통해 20세기 초 두문동 72현 현양사업의 구체적인 모습과 출간주체를 살핀다. 이어 신문자료 등에서 나타나는 두문동사원의 건립 과정을 추적한다. 이를 통해 이 시기 두문동 72현 기념사업을 주도한 인물들이 친일유림의 네트워크 안에서 서로를 인지하고 있었음을 확인할 수 있다. 조상에 대한 현양이라는 유림들의 욕망이 유가적 가치를 통치의 도구로 포섭하고자 했던 일제의 의도와 부합했던 흔적이다. 결국 40년대에 이르면 두문동 72현에 대한 현양사업이 ‘황도유학’과 ‘내선일체’의 언어로 정당화되는 데까지 이르게 된다.

영문 초록

The aim of the thesis is to trace the commemoration movement for ‘72 Loyalists of Tumung-tong’ including the memorial publication and the establishment of a shrine in 1920~30s and to explain who - and with which purpose - represented the loyalists of the fallen dynasty, which could be a sensitive issue in the Japanese colonial era. The memorial records such 麗朝忠烈錄, 增修成仁錄, and 麗末忠賢錄 were published by family clans and the ginseng merchants in Kaesŏng in the 1920s, followed by the continuous nationwide efforts of Confucians of Korea to establish Tumun-tong Shrine in 1930s. The two documents featured in this article, 增修成仁錄(1924) dedicated to Nam ŭl-jin(南乙珍) and 麗末忠賢錄 sponsored by the Kaesŏng merchants, shows the actual strategy of the commemoration movement and its participants, while newspaper articles reveal the process of foundation of the shrine. As a result, the participants were connected to the pro-Japanese Confucianists network, whose desire of commemorating their ancestors was won over to the Japanese administration utilizing Confucian morals as the tool for governance. In the 1940s, the commemoration movement reached the point where adopting the rhetoric of ‘Kogaku Confucianism(皇學儒學)’ and ‘Naisen Ittai(integration of Japan and Korea)’ to justify itself.
