『번역소학』과 『소학언해』 번역의 특징 비교 연구

국문 초록

본고는 『번역소학』과 『소학언해』의 번역문을 비교하여 그 전략을 연구하고자 하는 목적에서 작성하였다. 『소학』의 중요성으로 인해 그 번역에 대한 필요성은 일찍부터 인식되었다. 이 때문에 1518년 최초의 『소학』 번역서 『번역소학』이 나왔다. 그리고 이 번역문을 수정하고 보완한 『소학언해』가 1586년에 나왔다. 『소학언해』가 나오게 된 배경에는 『번역소학』 번역이 새로 이루어져야 한다는 반성이 있었기 때문이다. 『번역소학』 번역문이 의역으로 되어 있어 다시 직역으로 번역해야 한다는 것이 그 이유이다. 선행연구는 주로 이 직역과 의역의 양상을 피상적으로 비교하는 것에 그쳤다. 본 연구는 선행연구를 계승하는 한편 한 걸음 더 나아가 현토와 번역문을 비교하고, 또 주요 허사의 번역 방법을 비교하여 두 번역문의 특징을 살펴보았다. 정리하면 다음과 같다. 『번역소학』은 번역문을 널리 읽게 하려는 목적에서 번역한 번역서이고, 『소학언해』는 원문의 구조와 의미를 정확히 전달하려는 목적에서 번역한 번역서이다. 의역에서 직역으로의 변화는 번역의 목적 변화에 따른 전략의 변화라는 뜻인데, 『번역소학』과 『소학언해』의 현토 및 번역문은 그러한 전략 변화가 반영된 결과라고 생각한다.

영문 초록

This paper was prepared for the purpose of studying the strategy by comparing the translations of 『Beonyeoksohak(飜譯小學)』 and 『Sohakeonhae(小學諺解)』. 『Sohak(小學)』is a very important book, and the need for translation was recognized early on. For this reason, in 1518, the first translation of the 『Sohak』 was published. It's the 『Beonyeoksohak』. And the revised and supplemented translation of this translation, 『Sohakeonhae』 was published in 1586. The reason why 『Sohakeonhae』 came out was that there was a reflection that the translation of 『Beonyeoksohak』 should be made anew. This is because the previous translation tried to convey the meaning, so it was not accurately translated according to the grammar. It is the difference between so-called liberal translation and literal translation. Previous studies have only superficially compared these two translations. This study aims to inherit the results of previous studies. In addition, I would like to compare the translation methods of the Hyeonto(懸吐) and the Expletive(虛辭) to examine the characteristics of the two translations. The summary is as follows. 『Beonyeoksohak』 is translated for the purpose of making the translation widely read, and 『Sohakeonhae』 is translated for the purpose of accurately conveying the structure and meaning of the original. The change from liberal translation to literal translation means a change in strategy according to the change in the purpose of translation. I think the Hyeonto and translation of 『Beonyeoksohak』 and 『Sohakeonhae』 are the result of such a strategy change.
