조선후기 科賦 참고서와 공부 방법

국문 초록

본 논문은 조선시대 과거시험 과목인 科賦의 공부방법과 그 문체적 특징을 규명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 科賦는 조선의 과거시험에서 유일하게 小科와 大科에서 모두 시험된 문체로, 특히 조선후기에는 기존의 賦 문체와는 전혀 다른 특이한 형태를 띠게 된다. 조선후기 科賦는 통상 6자로 짝을 맞추어 30구로 成篇하는데, 기존의 賦와 다르게 押韻法, 平仄法 등을 무시하였으며, 조선후기 科文 특유의 程式을 갖는다. 아직 기존 연구에서 이 조선후기 科賦 문체자체의 특징과 그 歷史·文化的 의의에 대해서 충분히 다루어지지 못했는데, 특히 본고에서는 科賦 글쓰기를 위한 참고서 두 종, 『騷賦彙芳』(서울대학교 규장각)과 『小大由之』(국립중앙도서관)를 검토하여, 科賦 시험을 대비하여 수험생들이 어떤 공부를 했는지, 또 이를 통해 이 科賦 문체의 초점, 다시 말해 핵심 평가기준을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이에 본고는 첫째, 『騷賦彙芳』과 『小大由之』의 문헌적 특징을 검토한다. 각 참고서의 체제, 본문 구성 방식, 기타 서지적 특징을 살펴, 내용 검토의 근거로 삼는다. 둘째, 『騷賦彙芳』과 『小大由之』의 내용들을 살펴본다. 본문에 있는 각 내용과 내용의 배열 방식, 내용의 특징들을 살핌으로써, 이들 참고서를 통해 하는 공부의 방식과 내용을 살펴볼 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, 문헌과 내용에 대한 검토를 기반으로, 조선후기 科賦의 공부 방식을 알아본다. 특히 17세기 중반 澤堂 李植(1584~1647)이 제시한 科賦의 공부 방식과 비교해, 어떠한 변화, 또는 차이점이 있는지 검토한다. 이를 통해 조선의 科賦가 역사적으로 변화해 간 과정을 추적하고, 그 대체적 추세와 경향성에 대해 논하며, 조선이 과거시험을 통해 시험 응시자들에게 요구한 자질은 무엇이었는지 역추적해 본다.

영문 초록

This study explores the study method of Chosŏn Kwabu科賦 and its stylistic characteristics in the late period of Chosŏn. Kwabu was the only writing genre that had been tested in both low-level (小科) and high-level 大科 examinations in Chosŏn. Kwabu was usually made up of 30 paired phrases and each phrase was composed of 6 classical Chinese characters. Moreover, it ignored rhymes and rules of versifications which had been considered core features of the traditional Bu 賦 genre. Kwabu has received relatively little attention on the characteristics of this style of writing and its cultural significance, especially in the late periods of Chosŏn. This study investigates two Kwabu reference books in order to discuss its study methods and its core evaluation criteria. This article shall proceed in the following way: first, it examines the philological features of two reference books, Sobuhwibang騷賦彙芳, and Sodaeyuji小大由之. Especially the way of content structuring of each book will be closely examined in this part. Second, it looks at the content of two reference books to understand their way of preparation against the Kwabu writing. Third, based on the previous parts, this article discusses the studying methods and the evaluation standard of Kwabu. In particular, it focuses on historical changes in its studying methods by comparing them with the one suggested by Lee Sik 李植(1584~1647) in the mid-seventeenth century. This article traces, in conclusion, which literary qualities were mainly tested in the Chosŏn civil examination system.
