『난중일기』와 『임진장초』에 기록된 ‘구미’ 지명의 위치 고찰

국문 초록

이순신의 행적과 조선 수군의 활약을 기록한 『난중일기』와 『임진장초』에는 ‘-구미’로 표기된 지명이 네 가지가 나타난다. 첫째는 이목구미로서 임진왜란 직전 이순신이 전라좌수영을 순시한 경로에 있던 지역이며, 둘째는 화준구미로서 부산포해전 때 조선 수군이 전투를 벌인 지역 가운데 하나이다. 셋째는 원두구미로서 임진왜란시기 삼도수군통제영이 있던 한산도 부근 지역이다. 그리고 넷째는 군영구미로서 명량해전 직전 이순신이 조선수군 재건을 벌인 경로에 있던 지역이다. 이들 네 지명의 위치는 연구할 가치가 높은 주제다. 하지만 아쉽게도 ‘구미’ 지명 관련 연구는 아직도 제대로 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 이 논고는 『난중일기』와 『임진장초』에 기록된 ‘구미’ 지명의 위치 고찰이 목적이다. 여러 관련 사료와 연구 자료를 검토한 결과 이목구미의 위치를 확정하고, 화준구미의 위치를 비정할 수 있었다. 군영구미에 대해서는 최근에 발표된 관련 논문이 추정한 위치가 ‘구미’ 지형의 특징을 가졌는지 검토하였다. 원두구미는 그 위치를 파악할 수 있는 관련 자료를 찾기 어려워서 이에 대한 검토는 후일로 미룬다.

영문 초록

In Nanjungilgi[亂中日記](Diary of Yi Sun-shin) and Imjin Jangcho[壬辰狀草](Drafts of Imjin War Reports of Yi Sun-shin), which record Yi Sun-shin’s achievement and the activities of the Joseon navy, four place names followed by ‘-gumi’ appear. The first is Imokgumi, a region where Yi Sun-shin was on the path of inspecting his territory just before the Imjin War, and the second is Hwajungumi, one of several regions where the Joseon navy fought just before the Battle of Busanpo. The third is Wondugumi, a region near Hansando Island where the headquarters of the Joseon navy was located during the Imjin War. And the fourth is Gunyeonggumi, a region where Yi Sun-shin was on the path of rebuilding the Joseon navy before the Battle of Myeongnyang. The review of the locations of these four places deserve serious study. However research on the four ‘gumi’ places has not yet been properly conducted. The purpose of this paper is to review the locations of the ‘gumi’ places in Nanjungilgi and Imjin Jangcho. As a result of examining various related historical records and research materials, the location of Imokgumi could be determined and the location of Hwajungumi could be estimated. As for Gunyeonggumi, it was reviewed whether the location estimated by the recently published related paper had the characteristics of the ‘gumi’ topography. It is difficult to find related materials that can identify the location of Wondugumi, so the review of this will be postponed to a later date.
