국문 초록

『臼山旨訣』은 田愚가 金永燮에게 보낸 편지 등의 글을 모은 책이다. 이 책은 1897년 상해에서 석판본으로 인쇄되었는데, 김영섭은 약 1,000질 가량을 국내로 들여와 유포하였다. 김영섭은 사림들이 이 책을 통해 스승 전우의 도학을 이해해줄 것으로 믿었고, 자신 또한 전우 문하의 정통을 이은 제자로 인정받으리라 생각했겠지만, 이 책은 사림들의 거센 비판만 야기했다. 국가적 위기 상황에서 전우의 처신은 儒宗을 자처하는 사람으로서 매우 부족했다는 것이다. 이러한 비판에 직면한 전우는 이 책을 수거, 소각하도록 지시했지만, 비판은 수그러들지 않았고 김영섭은 사후에 문인록에서 삭제되었다. 김영섭이 복권된 것은 전우가 사망한 뒤이다. 이 책은 김영섭에게 전해진 전우의 心法을 담고 있고, 김영섭은 이를 자신의 학문적 정통성을 드러내는 것으로 포장하고자 하였으나, 전우의 문집은 이러한 포장을 거둬 냈고, 이 책에 담긴 많은 편지 역시 제외하였다. 제외된 편지 대부분은 물의를 일으켰거나 김영섭의 심법 수수를 유추할 만한 내용이 담긴 것들이었다. 전우가 생전에 자신의 문집을 직접 산삭했다는 사실을 염두에 둔다면, 이 책이 결국 전우의 인가를 받지 못하였다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 이 책에 담긴 내용들과 그에 관한 주석은 전우와 김영섭이 산 시대를 이해할 수 있도록 도와준다. 그리고 전우가 제자들에게 어떤 식으로 도학을 전수하고자 하였는지 또한 보여준다. 이 책의 가치는 바로 이런 역사적 사실로서의 의미에 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

GusanJigyeol』 is a collection of articles such as letters from Jeon-Woo to Kim-Youngsup. This book was printed in lithograph in Shanghai in 1897. Kim-Youngsup brought about 1,000 vaginal products into Korea and distributed them. Kim-Youngsup believed that Joseon Confucian scholars would read this book and understand the thoughts of his teacher Jeon-Woo. He also thought that he would be recognized as a disciple who succeeded in the orthodoxy of Jeon-Woo. However, Korean Confucian scholars read this book and criticized Jeon-Woo. “At the time, Joseon was in a very difficult situation nationally, and Jeon-Woo ignored it. This appearance of Jeon-Woo is the result of Jeon-Woo's lack of personality and wrong judgment. He has no qualifications as a leader of Joseon Confucianism.” Faced with these criticisms, Jeon-Woo and Jeon-Woo's disciples ordered the book to be collected and burned, but the criticism did not subside. Kim-Youngsup was posthumously removed from Jeon-Woo's list of pupils. Kim-Youngsup was reinstated after Jeon-Woo died. This book contains the teachings of Jeon-Woo passed down to Kim-Youngsup. Kim-Youngsup packaged it as revealing his academic legitimacy, but Jeon-Woo's anthology has removed this packaging. The Jeon-Woo anthology excludes many of the letters contained in this book. Most of the letters excluded were those that caused scandal or contained content that Kim-Youngsup would be proud of. In the end, it can be said that this book did not receive Jeon-Woo's approval. However, the contents of this book and its comments help us understand the times in which Jeon-Woo and Kim-Youngsup lived. And it helps us understand what Jeon-Woo taught his disciples. Perhaps the virtue of this book lies in its value as a historical material.
