전국∼전한시기 遼東郡의 경계형태와 대외 교통로

국문 초록

본고는 전국시대∼전한 시기 동북 방면 대외 교통로 문제를 요동군 변경 시설과 그 경계 형태를 중심으로 살펴본 연구로서, 특히 전국시대∼전한 시기 중국 왕조와 고조선과의 대외 교통로 문제를 고찰하였다. 중국 고대 국가의 교통망은 縣 단위의 문서전달체계와 밀접한 관련이 있었다. 이 때문에 군현을 확대․ 재편하는 과정에는 반드시 교통로 정비가 수반되었다. 그리고 봉수와 같은 변경 수비 시설 역시 변경 문서전달체계의 최하위 단위였으며, 변경의 위급한 상황을 효과적으로 대처하기 위해 군대나 물자의 원활한 이동을 위한 교통로 확보는 필수적이었다. 이런 점은 대외 교통로 문제에도 동일하게 적용되었다. 전국시대 燕과 고조선의 주요 교통로는 당시 변군이었던 요동군의 방어시설과 관련이 있었다. 비록 요동군의 강역이나 고조선과의 경계로서 滿番汗의 위치 비정 문제는 논란의 여지가 있으나, 그 대략의 교통로는 遼寧省 동단에서 압록강 중하류를 통과하여 고조선의 수도인 왕검성에 이르는 경로로 정리할 수 있다. 이러한 육로 교통로는 진한 시기를 거치면서 요동군 변경 시설의 변화에 따라 그 관리 방법이 바뀌었을 뿐 대체로 유사한 형태로 유지되었다. 특히 진 제국 시기에는 요동군과 고조선이 접변하는 지역에 外徼를 설치하여, 대외 교통로를 효과적으로 관리하고자 하였다. 그렇지만 고대 중국 왕조와 고조선의 대외 교통로 문제는 고조선의 강역과 중국 왕조와의 경계와도 관련이 있기에 국내외 학계에서 군현과 하천의 위치 비정은 물론 遼寧省과 서북한 지역에서 발견된 봉수 유지 등의 해석을 둘러싸고 이견이 팽팽하게 맞서고 있다. 중국 왕조와 고조선의 경계 지점에 대한 정확한 위치 비정은 향후 관련 고고 발굴 조사가 진행되어 이에 대한 확정을 할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study examines boundary types of the Liaodong-Jun(遼東郡) and foreign traffic routes during the Warring States(戰國)·Qin(秦)·Han(漢) periods. The purpose of this study is to understand traffic Routes between ancient Chinese dynasties and the Gojoseon. The transportation network of ancient China was closely related to the document delivery system of the Xian(縣) unit. The route maintenance always accompanied the expansion or reorganization of local administrative organizations. The boundary defense facilities such as “the beacon” were also the lowest unit of the boundary document delivery system, so the nation s internal transportation network was systematically formed up to the boundary defense facilities. Therefore, the main traffic route from the capital of ancient Chinese dynasties to Gojoseon s Capital was the route to the northern part of the Korean Peninsula after passing through the boundary facilities of Liaodong-Jun. Although the problem of determining the extent of Liaodong-Jun during the Warring States period and the location of the boundary with the Gojoseon is controversial, the main traffic route between the Yan(燕) and the Gojoseon can be understood as routes from the border facilities of Liaodong-Jun to the middle and lower reaches of the Yalu River and to the capital of the Gojoseon. Although management methods were changed according to changes of facilities in Liaodong-Jun during the Qin(秦)·Han(漢) periods, these roads were generally maintained the same. During the Qin Empire, ‘Wai Jiao(外徼)’ was installed in the area where the Liaodong-Jun and the Gojoseon bordered to effectively control or manage foreign traffic routes. However, since the problem of foreign traffic routes between ancient Chinese dynasties and the Gojoseon is related to the location of their boundaries, there are conflicting opinions on location determination in the academic circles. It is expected that the exact location of their boundaries will be confirmed after archaeological excavations.
