키클라데스 조각 요소가 차용된 현대 도자조형의 표현과 특징연구

국문 초록

20세기 초, 전후 혼란의 극복과정에서 근대적 감각을 앞세운 실험적 시도들이 여러 예술영역에서 동 시다발적으로 등장했다. 유럽에서 이러한 변화는 외래에서 유입된 조형요소의 영향을 받아 추상적이거 나 초현실적 특징으로 확장되고 세분되었다. 특히 회화나 조각부분에서는 아프리카로부터 유입된 이국 적인 조형요소가 주목받았다. 근대미술교육을 받고, 숙련된 기량으로 실용적 사물을 만들던 몇몇 작가들이 본질적 형태를 추구하 는 과정에서 자신들만의 동기를 찾으려 했다. 그들은 고대 지중해 지역에서 부장품으로 사용되었던 키 클라데스 조각의 조형적 특징에서 미의 본질적 형태를 발견했고 수용하였다. 키클라데스 조각의 간결한 표현, 과감한 생략과 결합방식과 같은 특징은 여러 작가들에게 영향을 미 쳤고 다양한 분야에 변용되었다. 특히 점토 작업을 하던 이들은 외적 형태의 모방, 차용에서 본질적 이상으로까지 그 의미를 확장하였다. 키클라데스 조각은 점토를 사용한 표현에 적합한 단순화 된 세부 묘사, 분할, 단위의 결합의 특징적 요소를 갖고 있었다. 이러한 조형요소의 차용으로 기능적 사물의 제 작을 넘어 표현의 확장으로 이어졌고, 유럽 현대도자 태동의 한 축이 되었다. 물성의 이해와 대상화를 통해 유럽의 현대도예는 확장되었고 미국과 구분되는 전개과정을 보인다. 즉흥성을 바탕으로 추상적 표현을 모색했던 미국 현대도예의 양상과 달리 유럽의 근현대 도자예술은 근원적이고 이상적인 미의식을 찾으려 했고, 이러한 과정에서 그들 문명의 기원인 고대 그리스문화와 조각에 주목하였다. 그리고 숙련된 기량을 바탕으로 형태, 정신적 가치, 재료의 특질을 분석하고 수용 하고자 했다. 오랫동안 동아시아의 도자기법, 장식과 내용을 추종하고 재현하던 소극적 답습에서 벗어 나려한 시도는 키클라데스 조각요소의 수용으로 이어졌고 개별적 표현으로 확장되었다. 이러한 차용을 통해 점토 작업과정에서 본질적 미의 특성을 지속적으로 공유하기 위한 그들만의 정체성도 획득할 수 있게 되었다.

영문 초록

In the beginning of the 20th century, experimental attempts that emphasized modern senses simultaneously appeared in various fields of art during the process of overcoming the postwar confusion. In Europe, these changes were influenced by the formative elements that were introduced from foreign countries and expanded and subdivided into abstract or supernatural characteristics. In particular, in painting and sculpture, the exotic formative elements that were introduced from Africa captured attention. Some artists who were educated about modern art and made functional objects with their practiced skills aimed for simple and fundamental forms and tried to find motivation from the origin of European culture. They discovered and accommodated the essential form of aesthetics from the formative characteristics of cycladic sculpture that was passed down from the Mediterranean Area and regions of ancient Greece. The precise expression, bold omission, and coupling method of the cycladic sculpture during the same age caused an influence on many artists and were transformed into different materials. By adding the detailed portrayal, simple division, and the integration of the units that are appropriate for the characteristics of the clay materiality, the expression and characteristics of cycladic sculpture went beyond the creation of functional objects and led to the expansion of expressions and became the basis of modern European ceramics. Although understanding the materiality is set up as the basis, the unfolding process of modern ceramic art shows that Europe and the United States aim for different directions. While the United States has an aspect of modern ceramic art that explored for improvised and abstract expressions, the modern and contemporary ceramic art in Europe presents specific images and forms that contain underlying and ideal aesthetic sense. The attempt to break away from the passive imitation that followed and recreated the ceramic method, decoration, and details from East Asia for a long time led to the accommodation of cycladic sculpture formative elements and expanded to individual expression. Through the adoption process, it acquired their distinct identity to continuously share the intrinsic aesthetic characteristics in the clay work course.
