국문 초록

인간은 시각적으로 보여 지는 물질적 형상을 대상이 지닌 고유형태로 인지한다. 이미 경험하거나 정보를 통해 얻은 지식과 같이 알고 있는 것으로 대상을 인식하는 것 있다. 이러한 이미지는 외적인 요인(형태, 색상, 환경 등)과 내적요인(개인의 경험, 생각 등)을 포괄하여 다양하게 인지되기 때문에 인간이 대상을 구분하는 것은 사고를 체계화하는 상징적 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 미술영역, 특히 20세기 이후 조각의 흐름에서는 1차적으로 보이는 사물의 형상뿐 아니라 공간에 대한 이해를 더하면서 하나의 Narrative(서사)를 만들어 간다. 이렇게 이전에 인식하지 않았던 빈 공간을 하나의 표현대상으로 인지하게 되면서 시간과 공간 그리고 움직임에 대한 관심이 더해져 새로운 스타일의 표현방법들을 찾게 되었다. 그렇기 때문에 조형작업에서 이야기하는 형상에 대한 이해는 공간과 시간에 대한 개념이 중요하다. 즉 대상과 함께 그것이 위치한 장소와 시간이 새로운 공간으로 재해석되는 것이다. 일반적으로 대상을 인식할 때 구체적인‘형상’(Figure)을 먼저 인지하게 되며, 그 형태를 둘러싸고 있는 ‘배경’(Ground)은 빈 공간으로 생각하게 된다. 이는 곧 Negative 공간(배경)에 대한 궁금증을 자극하면서 여러 분야에서 응용되기 시작하였으며, 이러한 네거티브 공간에 대한 인식은 공간에 대한 일반적 사고를 다양한 각도에서 접근할 수 있는 가능성을 열어주었다. 본 연구에서는 형상과 배경의 상호 연관성에 대한 고찰을 통해서 공간의 확장과 다양성을 모색하였으며, 이와 같이 확장된 공간에 대한 표현형식을 중심으로 평면작품과 조형도자(입체) 분야에서 시도되는 네거티브 공간을 설명하였다. 이를 통하여 조형공간에서 새롭게 인식된 네거티브 공간이 새로운 조형영역으로써의 능동적 표현공간임을 확인하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Humans recognize material form seen visually as an inherent form that the object has. They recognize the object as what they know like the knowledge they already experienced or gained through information. Since this image is recognized diversely, including external factors(form, color, environment, etc.) and internal factors(personal experience, imagination, etc.), it can be said that classifying objects is a symbolic process of systemizing thinking. In the current of the realm of fine art, expecially sculpture after 20th century, adding understanding of space as well as forms of things seen primarily, a narrative is created. Thus, recognizing empty space not recognized before as a object of expression, a new style of expression of method, by adding interest in time, space and movement, was found. That s why the concept of time is important for understanding of form referred to in molding work. Namely, the existing place and time with the object are reinterpreted as a new space. Generally, when people realize an object, they recognize its specific figure , and think of the ground surrounding its form as an empty space. This excited questions about negative space(ground), and began to apply to several areas. This perception of negative space opened the possibility of having access to the general idea of negative space from different angles. This study sought expandability and diversity of space via a review on the correlation between form and ground, and explained negative space attempted in the line of vision and formative ceramic arts focussing on the works showing expression and attempt about expanded space like this. Through this, the study intended to confirm that negative space, newly recognized in the molding space, is an active expression space as a new molding area.
