전라도 서남부지역 분청자기 고찰 및 산업화를 위한 정책지원 방안

국문 초록

우리나라의 도자기는 오랜 역사 속에서 우수한 도자문화를 형성해 왔으나 조선 시대에 한정적으로 나타났던 우리 민족의 독창적인 회화적 정서로 대표되는 분청자기는 전라도 서남부와 무안군 지역을 비롯하여 고흥군 두원면 운대리, 광주광역시 충효동 무등산 지역 등지에서 제작되었고, 이러한 분청자기는 세계 어느 나라에서도 찾아볼 수 없는 우리만이 갖는 독창적인 도자기로서 서민적이며 실용적인 용기로 발달하여 소박하고 겸손한 우리 선조들의 심성이 그대로 드러나는 가장 한국적인 도자기라 볼 수 있다. 우리나라에서 분청자기에 관련된 일반적인 연구와 자료는 매우 다양하고 많으나, 대체로 발굴보고서 등의 미술사학이나 고고학분야에 한정되어 나타나고 있으며 도자문화 또는 도자산업 분야의 연구는 매우 미약한 상태이다. 더구나 전라도 서남부 일대와 무안 지역의 분청자기의 문양과 장식에 관한 연구는 그 역사성과 중요도에 비에 도자문화 전 분야를 보아도 거의 없는 상태이다. 특히 전라도 서남부 일대와 무안지역에 나타난 문양과 의장은 퇴화한 청자의 공예의장을 모태로, 새롭게 완성 된 그릇으로 15세기와 17세기에 걸쳐서 존재하였고 상감, 인화, 철화기법 등이 대부분이며, 다양한 독창적인 문양과 명문, 장식기법 등은 타 지역의 분청자기와 다른 독특한 특징을 지니고 있어 도자사적 가치가 높아 이를 지역 도자산업의 특성화와 산업화가 지극히 요구되는 바이다. 본 연구는 전라도 서남부 지역의 분청자기를 중심으로 도요지 조사와 학술적인 자료 등을 통하여 전라도 서남부 지역의 발달 배경 및 특징 등을 살펴본다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 지역 분청자기 문화의 계승은 물론 발전적인 측면에서 지역 전통도자를 특성화 할 수 있도록 하여 전통도자기의 활성화뿐만 아니라 산업화로 연결시켜 지역 경제 및 산업에도 도움이 될 수 있도록 산업화 방안을 연구하고자 한다.

영문 초록

With its long history of ceramic ware, Korea has developed outstanding ceramic culture. Especially Buncheong Porcelain, which appeared limitedly during the Joseon Dynasty but represents Korean people’s original pictorial sentiment, was created in the southwest area of Jolla-do, the Muan-gun area, Wundae-ri in Duwon-myeon of Goheung-gun, Mt. Mudeung at Chunghyo-dong in Gwangju Metropolitan City, etc. Buncheong Porcelain, as Korean unique ceramic ware that is not found in any other country in the world, is considered the most Korean-style ceramic ware that is plain and practical, representing our ancestors’ naïve and humble mentality. Many reports and materials have been produced on Buncheong Porcelain in Korea, but they are mostly limited to the history of fine arts or archaeology such as excavation reports, and few studies have been made in connection to ceramic culture or ceramic industry. Despite their importance and historicity, what is more, almost no research has been made on the patterns and ornaments of Buncheong Porcelain from the southwest area of Jolla-do and the Muan area even throughout the entire sphere of ceramic culture. The patterns and designs observed in the southwest area of Jolla-do and Muan were developed newly out of the craft designs of the degenerated porcelain, and lasted from the 15th to 17th centuries. They used mostly inlay, stamp, and under-glaze iron techniques, and various original patterns and decorating techniques distinguished Buncheong celadon in these areas from that in other regions. Therefore, it is highly required to establish the base for the contents of local culture contributing to local industry and economy by activating and industrializing traditional ceramic ware in these areas. Thus, this study purposed to find major pottery kiln sites of Buncheong Porcelain in the southwest region of Jolla-do, to examine their characteristics in detail, and to discuss the development and characteristics of Buncheong Porcelain in the historical background of the southwest region of Jolla-do through materials including historical records and ceramic shreds as an effort to lay an academic ground supporting the meaning and significance of Buncheong Porcelain in this area. Moreover, this study aimed at the characterization of local traditional culture from the viewpoint of the transmission and development of local culture and at the industrialization of Buncheong Porcelain.
